I am making a gaming pc for around $800

Just wondering if this will work and if i could make it better somehow (for same price).

While the i3-2120 is a very capable CPU the i3-3220 is only a few dollars more from Newegg. They're pretty much alike though the i3 3220 is an Ivy Bridge and lower wattage.

Your mobo should be Ivy Bridge ready.

How's this? How much difference would a 2g graphics card make?
 
Yes, it's fine. Keep in mind that the standard non-pro version of Windows doesn't support more than 16GB of RAM, but other than that it's pretty good.

In my use, Windows 8 has been excellent. I don't see why it would be any worse for gaming, and from my experience it's been a fair bit faster than W7 (using a VM running W8 on my laptop as a comparison)

Commenting on your build, at the price that the 7850 is selling at, you may as well go 2GB. However, I think you'd be better off spending an extra $30-40 and getting a GTX 660, which beats the 7850 in almost every category. Also, if you have the budget you may want to consider upgrading to a Caviar Black HDD as opposed to the Blue series, an then upping its capacity to 1TB as chances are you'll eventually max out 500GB. Perhaps even get a 120GB SSD if it's in the budget, and use it as your boot drive. It'll free up some space on your spinning drive, and improve performance throughout the OS.

Thanks man :) I cant really afford any of those upgrades as I am already over budget. I may get a 2g graphics if I can afford once I order.
 
Battlefield 3 is pretty much the hardest to run game right now.

Gonna windows 8, but it will take a while to get used to. And go with MSI or sapphire for the graphics card.
