ok so im getting ready to do my first build ever and im pretty stoked. I have a pretty good knowledge of computers, their parts, and where and how everything connect. ive taken my stock hp apart a couple times to clean it, and well cuz i really like to take pc's apart and see how they work and stuff. BUT! i think i need some help as to choosing all the right hardware for what i want to use my pc for. Basically i want to be able play all the popular games without lags or anything. I have around a $700 limit. I would really appreciate any suggestions or comments so i dont end up buying the wrong parts. Sooooo heres wut ive come up with...

gigabyte P55-UD3 mobo

Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor E8400

Antec Nine Hundred Mid-Tower Case

ATI HD4670 1GB PCI-Express Video Card

Seagate Barracuda 2TB SATA/5900-RPM HDD

Corsair DDR3 3GB 1333MHz

Inland ThunderSound PCI Sound Card Surround Sound 5.1 6 Channel

Thermaltake TR2 600W Power Supply ATX12V V2.2

As for the optical drives and a few lil other parts like extra fans, cables, etc. I'll pick them out when i go to buy everything else. so the system i wanna build. but like i said, anyone with suggestions lemme hear em!
Thanks in advance!:D

First off, welcome to ComputerForum :D

2) You know that the C2D doesn't support triple channel RAM right? Unless you're going to set up 2x1GB and 2x512MB
I'd get something like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...276&cm_re=ripjaws_1333-_-20-231-276-_-Product for the RAM instead.

Where are you buying you're parts from? Where are you from US, AU, UK, etc? Do you have an OS?

My advice skip any core 2 duo they are somewhat outdated and very over priced go with something like an AMD Phenom II X3 720. Don't get a 2TB hard drive they are more prone to failure. If you do need 2TB of space then get 2 1TB drives. You do not need a sound card unless you want one they are not necessory as the sound from the motherboard is more then enough. Depending where you are located and where you are buying from a $700 budget should get you way more then what you listed.

Im from the US. Already have Windows 7. and ya if i could build something like this for less than $700 then that'd be sweet as i'd rather not have to spend 7 bills.

I agree on the HDD. 200 gig is plenty, unless you do a lot of pics and songs??

Well i have my 500 gig external completely full with movies, and my primary 200 gig HDD in my comp has about 20 gig of space left and my secondary 160 gig HDD in my comp is just about full... so ya, i have a butt load of movies songs pics, etc. and plan on having alot more. ive had 2 externals go out on me so im done with those.

Ok how does this work for you?

Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811146058 (or whatever you prefer)

CPU,RAM,MOBO: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.308220

GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150323

PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371016

HDD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136284

ODD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827136177

Total is $592.92 + shipping this will be a decent gaming rig and I don't think you would have any trouble playing most games.

I wouldn't really suggest going any cheaper for a gaming rig not if you wanna be able to play games with out struggling. If you would like I can suggest something cheaper but you would loose you're ability to play some of the newer and more demanding games. As for you're HDD you can always pick up another later. You say you have about 700gb of stuff right now. Well that leaves you another 300gb to play with so when you start to get close to the end you can get another.

ya thats true. 1 tb would be sufficient for a while. and as far as the cpu... is amd better than intel? ive read alot of ppl talkin bout amd in these forums, but ive read in magazines that intel is leading cpu.

Well Intel is the leader in the CPU market. Motley because there technology is better then AMD's. Intel has the leading CPU right now which is the i7. Does that mean AMD is not good no it just means Intel leads the market in higher performance CPUs. In fact AMD makes the best budget CPUs you can easily get a Quad core AMD for less then you can a Dual core Intel.

Ah i see... well then in that case amd it shall be! maybe even quad core. So does the X4 mean quad? seems like it would. and thanks in advance for all your help and knowledge.

Yep X4= quad just as X3= triple and X2=dual

sweet. ya i was just pricing X4's and that would be perfect for my budget. cant wait to do this as ive been playing games on my HP pentium 4 3ghrz, 1gig ram, radeon X1650 gpu... plays most games without lags but graphics settings gotta be on low which is not cool. but that'll all be in the past soon enough!

atleast your doing better than me!

look at my sig if you wanna see a real beast of a computer!! *huge amount of sarcasm in voice*

C2D also would not work with that mobo at all, you'll either need an LGA775 board with some DDR2 or a Core i5 CPU.

To the OP: The sound card you selected is probably on par with most modern onboard audio, IE unless you're an audiophile the onboard will serve you well.
