Hi. I'm in need of a new HD. I have a 1000GB (or 1 Terrabyte) Internal HD that came with my Comp. and it's being filled with space pretty quickly (FLACs, Games) and I have space for 1 HD inside. I have a basic PC...

Phenom II 945 Quad-Core
ATI Radeon HD 5450
8GB DDR3
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.
Power Supply 300W MAX

The drive I have is a...

Seagate
Barracuda 7200 .12
1000 Gbytes
Internal

Now, I know it's SATA from comparing online, but my question is...is it SATA or SATA II? How do I find out? The drive says "Serial" on it and a bunch of number and letters. Which SATA drives are compatible with my PC?

I am looking to buy a 2TB Internal HD from $50 to $200, the best bang I can get for a product that's going to last me and not die out. Also, is it worth getting a warranty? Could someone help me find a good deal on one?

PS: This PC is pretty new. I plan on filling this new HD as well. Is it worth getting a Backup External 3TB HD with a warranty in case the main ones die? If so, does anyone know any good deals on them as well? Price around ummmm $300 or so. :o

Please let me know if you need more info. or if I made any mistakes. Thank you.

Any new computer will be SATA 2. Are you sure you only have room for 1 drive as they usually have room for at least 2?

FYI, a hard drive can go out at any time, as its an electronic/mechanical device. If you have data on there that you don't want to lose, your best bet is to make sure its backed up somwhere.

As far as what drive to get.

Seagate, Western Digital, Samsung

Please tell if you know about the 2TB HD as well. Will I be good to go on any one? I will be in desperate need of it soon. Thank you.

Yeah. I looked and there's only one other space for the screws in the little frame like my old PCs. The first drive takes up half the room. :o

EDIT: This one looks good. Would this one work ok for me?

EDIT 2: OR perhaps THIS ONE. This one even has a $5 dollar discount that's ending today. If you guys give me the go ahead, I'll place the order tonight.

I don't know why either wouldn't work. Do you have available Sata data and Sata power connectors from the power supply?

Ahhhhhhh...I just checked and I don't have either. I have 3 SATA data ports, 2 being taken by my HD and my CD/DVD drive, with the third one free. So I could just buy a wire. But I checked my power supply and there is just 2 SATA power connectors; again, one going towards the drive and the other towards the CD/DVD drive, and the rest are all 4 pin. Will this fix the problem?

Thank you for your help. I know I sound like an idiot but I don't want to spend $100 on something online and it doesn't work. If it was a local store, that would be different but I don't want hassle.

Also, did you look at my Motherboard. Are 3TB compatible with them? If not I could just get two 2TB external drives but the 3TB might be more convenient, I guess.

Again, thanks for you help. :)

On that adapter, wait till you get the drive and the case open to see how long it needs to be, then go to a local shop and pick one up.

I looked around at HP some, couldn't find anything. I can't say with certainty the 3tb will work as is. May require firmware or something for your setup. 2TB should be fine. Perhaps someone will come along with better input.
