First timer. Is This Good?

They probably will, but let's hope they don't. Actually, the OP has been convinced it won't make a difference in performance, so it doesn't matter either way.

And you've got him too scared to open the case and take a stick out. :P
HP as far as i can tell doesn't void warranty for opening, checked a few pictures on newegg of theirs and they don't seem to have any stickers that have to be broken for warranty voiding. However newegg does open the side panels for pictures so they could have been removed, but from zooming in i dont see any residue of such.

Ok really, does this guy Bodaggit23 really know what he's talking about or is he just full of it? Also, what's wrong with my video card? I thought the 4850 was pretty good. Plus, I'm not an extreme pc gamer, that's what I have a Playstation 3 for.

Well, it's not polite to speak in third person when the subject is present...

Don't believe a word I've said. It doesn't matter to me, because my build
runs my memory in Triple Channel like it's supposed to.

And my graphics card has plenty of juice from my power supply.

I was just trying to explain, that your system would run better if they
used 4 sticks of RAM, than if HP cheesed out and just used 3, because
of the FACT that the motherboard you just bought, is "supposed to"
run the memory in Dual Channel.

It was just a heads up, and it all ended up here...

Believe what you want.

I wouldn't say he's full of it, he's just slightly misinformed (not entirely, though). Basically, single-channel is all right, and won't cripple performance nearly as bad as he appears to think, but it will reduce performance somewhat; however, I doubt you would notice the difference, since memory speed is rarely a bottleneck. Of course, you can try and look up some benchmarks on whether dual/triple-channel makes any significant performance difference in apps you use, or do it the hard way and test both configurations yourself. I honestly doubt that getting rid of some of the RAM in favor of extra bandwidth would increase performance, especiall with modern OSs using extra RAM to cache frequently used stuff to actually increase performance, even when none of your programs actually use the whole 4GB.

And yes, the 4850 is a good card

Again, just because the feature is available, doesn't mean that's the way it's supposed to be run. Most of the stuff out there you buy have features that you don't always use, doesn't mean you're not using it the way you're supposed to.

Not "supposed to". And all you ever said that he'd better off removing one of the sticks, not adding an extra one... but yes, as I said, at same capacity dual-channel will be better than single-channel, but higher-capacity single-channel configuration is usually a wiser choice over a lower-capacity dual-channel configuration.

It was just a heads up, and it all ended up here...
Ended up where?

I have a builder I am doing a trade for telling me I don't want 6MB of ram as new windows 7 32 bit doesn't support it. Is he just trying to shave off money on his side of the trade or is there some truth there. I am a total noob, dont even know what makes it 32/64, is this just a different form of the software? It is a from scratch build. I want to game driving type and FPS, grand theft etc, I play online poker as well, email pics store music, up to 1200$ budget. He is buying stuff on credit with his supplier so can't compare newegg prices to his, has to use intel for MB and CPU. says can't get {or afford} i7/920, 670 seems cheap enough or if I have to go i5 or q9-- I can, is there a plus to raid two 500gb HDD or just as well off going one 1TB hdd? I obviously want best video card I can get out of him, looks like budget to small for RADEON HD 4870 X2 2GB or GeForce GTX 295. Whats almost as good thats gonna game well. I am using a 42" lcd for monitor and most test things I have seen don't mention over 30". is 4gb ram enough? Do I need ddr3? Is that faster? Also LCA sockets I see 1156 and 775? big difference, whats future needs gonna be? also 3.0 usb? Is that gonna be a must for the future? Hope to build something to get me by a good few years at least. Can run xp or W7, he will provide but not sure what happens if I need to reload later as I think it is just copy of his dealers copy or something. Anything I am leaving out? What would you guys build with this? Please be gentile, already said I am noob, don't want to have to trust him alone,so I need and appreciate all you guy's knowledge, dedication and passion. Nice to see people still help others and whole world not about the $, so thanks again

new build help- In FLA, USA, can run xp or W7, have them from builder, you suggest please. Usage- new gamer here, like racing COD FPS types, online poker player, email, pics, music storage, basic but want to be game ready. Budget 800-1200$ not much over but like to hear the options while I have knowledgeable people's attention. Running 42" and 37" lcd's as monitors, have keyboards etc, just getting tower built, trading for car. Guy's dad owns a shop, has to use intel for MB and cpu, looked at i7/860 but read don't really need quad for my use, maybe better to get best dual core I can and get better video card which I definitely need help with, also he mentioned two 500gb hdd, why not one 1TB instead?RAID, is there a plus to this? Best memory type? also read better two 3gb sticks rather than three 2gb etc,ddr2 vs ddr3? I really just want the fastest, most memory I can get, something to keep me going a good few years without replacing much but like upgradeable where I can get it, also 3.0 usb? gonna be necessary before long? I'm 45, a complete idiot, ripped off in past buying etowers etc. Please be gentile. I am most appreciative of you guys out there helping, rare glimpse of decent people not all about profit helping others, though I know your time and education is very valuable, so Thanks ahead of time. By the way I think smart to have info to direct unknowing people in what info to provide to speed up process. I don't know much of anything about overclocking etc or making to many adjustments, bios flashing is alien to me etc, so need something gonna screw together and run games at decent pace, stuck on dial up also, so more playing games alone not on network, if that makes a difference. So using intell for MB and CPU , lcd moniters, what do I have him build me? Run my xp home or go windows7, best video card for money, maybe update to 2nd card later? Thanks AJ update builder says i7 not possible, whats best dual core cpu to go with the best MB, or do I need a quad, maybe i5 p55 MB? or at least a q9-- chip in what MB?also having difficulty with the LGA info, whats gonna last longest, whats being phased out? be upgradeable without being to much? hopefully lastly guy says he thinks window7 32 bit supports just 4gb memory, is this correct, is this enough memory to last me? Been reading guides etc, but have not helped me much as you can see, lol. Thanks for patience, wanted video cards GeForce GTX 295 or Radeon HD 4870 X2, may well be out of the budget by to much, what would you guys go for?
