Microsoft Security Essentials

I've been using this since the Beta was released in June, and it's second to none.
It was just released to the public yesterday.

It's very light and uses very few system resources, so you won't notice your system bog down. In fact, if you're currently using Norton, AVG, or Kaspersky, you will notice your system boot faster once you uninstall them and get this up and running.

If you choose to use this, I recommend you download HERE first, then uninstall your current Antivirus software, then install.
 
I'm back to using AVG. I had Avast on my computer and managed to get my desktop infected. Oh...and of course my flash drives got infected which also got my netbook... Pretty sure AVG cleared everything up though.
 
How can you prefer something if you've never tried what I've just posted?

It is THE lightest A/V software I've used.

It's great for slower systems.
 
Well, am happy very happ with Kaspersk 2010 version and I don't thnk my computer is slow while booting or etc. :cool:

Taking a closer look at "Microsoft Security Essentials" :rolleyes:

So lets take a closer look at it, shall we ;)
  • Downloads and Installs Microsoft Genuine Advantage (a nuisance program that can and should be removed by visiting and reading HERE)
    Note: MS themselves have posted a more comprehensive removal HERE (this due to public outrage of such a hoorible invasion)
  • This Antivirus will automatically enable Microsoft (note not "Windows") Automatic updating
    Many users tend to disable MS updates (to speed up their computer, AND to allow manual updating when the User decides to
    Note: MS Updates includes Windows and Office and others, I hope you have lots of bandwidth for all of these 100s and 100s of Megs to download, automatically
  • This Antivirus will CALL HOME, meaning it will send your information back to MS servers, which no other Antivirus has ever done before (or presently does) This is classed in modern day terms as Malware or Spyware. If you don't mind MS retrieving unknown information from your personal computer, then go for it.

My recommendation: Do Not Install Microsoft Security Essentials

I recently switched from AVG to Avira anti virus software and so far am much happier with it because it seems much more streamlined than AVG is. Today i downloaded MS Security Essentials based on other recommendations on this forum. I have always understood that you only want to have one anti virus program installed on your computer at a time and it occurs to me that with the Avira and MS Security Essentials i now have two and potential conflicts can occur.
I would appreciate advice on this question so i can decide which one to keep and which to uninstall if that is what i need to do.

I'd say do not install "Microsoft Security Essentials"

Why would anyone want to :confused:

KIMSLAND..thanks for your usual help. I cant believe i didnt see your earlier explanation about MSE. I just uninstalled it and am sticking with Avira.

By the way, what are your thoughts on IE8 vs Firefox as a browser in terms of impace on computer speed? .

Microsoft Genuine Advantage is a pirates worst nightmare.
You are obviously an advocate.

The "hack" you linked to remove the tool is not from Microsoft.
Also, the second link, the one from Microsoft, is over a year old and is referring to a version distributed during the pilot program.

Updates are essential for the security of your operating system. Why do it manually?
