Gaming Desktop

My x48 system is very similar to yours..

I was running crysis pretty much full tilt with a single ati 4870 512mb...

I added a second one (crossfire) and it was ridiculous!!

Your choice on the 1GB is very, very good!

man im so excited to get this comp, I will have to wait about a week to order all the parts and my bigger monitor im getting for christmas, so ill have to use my current one.. man its gonna blow my current desktop out of the water lol can barely play anything on it so i have to use laptop lol

Trebor, you can save a lot of money by buying a mid tower case like this one:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811112099

Full towers are usually only if you have a ton of hard drives.

I would also downgrade your psu to a 600w (you only need a psu that big if you've got two vid cards) and put the money you saved on the case and psu (if you want to spend it that is) to buy a fast hard drive like a velociraptor.

And if you want to overclock buy an after market cooler, they work better than the stock ones the proc comes with. Here's a cool one but it's out of stock.

Trebor--

don't listen to that advice!!!

That piece of shit case wont work! I gaurantee the video card will have clearance issues! You certainly need a Full ATX case.

Also, don't downgrade your psu--750W is perfect for the config we've worked on, and covers you for some upgrades in the future--i.e. a second gpu!

Another thing--while the velociraptors are great and fast drives--you pay for them$$ and you will be rocking with the dual drives I showed you for much cheaper!! Plus you'll get more capacity than a single velociraptor.

I value everyone input/advice but those made above are not very good!

Stick with what we've discussed..

Yeah, by the looks of that GPU, you will probably want to stick with a full ATX tower, so you will have no clearance issues between the GPU and the drive bays (not to mention SLI) and you will have alot of room add more HDD later.

Exactly..I have 2 4870's in one build and an 4870 x2 in another,,,they are not small cards and really require a bigger chassis for space and air flow.

im gonna stick with my current case its large so i can add stuff and I like the way it looks... But later on I will be able to change out to a velociraptor and add another gpu pretty easily as long as i have a big case and my psu is good enough right?

You will be okay.

I just wanted to make it clear that the other guys recommendation of less power and smaller chassis does not make sense based on your parts and future upgrading.

The harddrive size is not the issue...its the length of the 4870 being able to fit in place, and be plugged in without hitting the hard drive or optical drive..etc.

later in time i would be able to upgrade to a raptor hdd though with little problems right? I plan to upgrade some parts when i have more money to spend lol

Yep, you can upgrade whenever!

If you think you're gonna do that..I'd save 59 bucks and only grab 1 hdd.

Then when u have the money--get a velociraptor..or whatever.

Ok cause i would plan to upgrade them within a few months, so should i just grab a 7xgig raptor when i do or should i get a larger one and just use that hdd? also do you think they are worth it? the reviews made them seem pretty godly haha booting o/s up in 10 seconds sounds good to me lol

I think the raptor and velociraptor are great but they are more $$$

If I were you, I'd make a choice now--and stick with it--kinda a waste of money to buy 1 or 2 now and then a newer, expensive one in a few months..

Up to you..but..

well i mean couldnt i run both a raptor and one of the 50 dollar ones at the same time or would they not be compatable. aka one for storage then the raptor for speed?

so what was the final build you ended up with? and what was the cost? I am also looking for something similar
