Gaming graphics card

Hi all I need some help, I dont now much about computers

Ive been using a Nvidia Geforce 7900 GT card for quite a while which i bought secondhand, it has been working fine till about a month ago when it started going funny when i play games coloured lines flash up all over the screen and this has been getting worse its now nearly impossible to play a game, so i need a new card but dont now what to get.

This is where i need your help, before the 7900 GT i was using a PNY Geforce 8400 GS DDR2 256MB card which worked ok but was quite slow, so can anyone recomend a good card for my computer for less than about 70 quid, I would prefer to spend less if there is a decent one that will work best for my computer

heres some info on my computer:

Intel(R) core(TM) 2 Duo CPU
E6750 @ 2.66GHz
2.67 GHz, 1.00 GB of RAM

What is your power supply? If your looking for a cheap upgrade you might wanna look at the 8600GT , 9600GT or the 9800GT if you wanna spend more.

Depends on your power supply and amps though.

yeah power supply,square block usualy at the bottom or top of case which loads of cables come out of to power everything in your system :)

A PSU is the power supply unit. It is a little box that powers everything in your computer, and it's also in the back where you plug in the power cord. Sometimes, you can see the relevant specs right on the outside. Other times, you need to open up your case and look on the side of the unit to see the specs.

If you bought your computer prebuilt, which seems likely since you don't know your parts, the easiest way is to look up your computer model and detailed specs online. The numbers you're most interested in are the total power (e.g., 300W) and the total number of amps on the +12V rails (e.g., 18a+18a=36a).

If your computer is prebuilt, it's likely you have a pretty weak PSU. In that case, the Radeon 4670 is an excellent card for you. Good performance and very low power requirements. If your PSU is a good one, your options are less limited.

it says:

+5V & 3.3V combined load 230W
+5V & 3.3V & 12V combined load 422W
Total output is 500W max

is there now a sertain graphics card you would recomend me

If my math is right, that means:

422-230=192W for 12v...

192/12=16a.

That is not a good PSU. It's spec'd more like a 250W PSU, not a 500W one.

You should still be able to run the Radeon 4670, but I'd recommend also getting a decent PSU. If your budget is extremely limited, I'd recommend this one (at the very least):

It's not super efficient or quiet, but for the price, it'll give you a decent amount of power. Otherwise, if you can afford it, get a Corsair PSU.

You can try the 4670 without the PSU upgrade and it'll probably run stably. But I'd recommend upgrading both. If you get a good PSU, your video card options go way up.

With that PSU you could POSSIBLY get by with the GeForce 6200. That's the one I have in my dell "demonsion" 2350.

The min watt's the 6200 needs is 300watts. But if you want a good one than you're going to have to drop a few to get a good psu and a card. Perhaps RAM.
 
well here is a picture of the sticker on the psu does this help, i had the impression it was a good one

lol you got me there. I was just going off the calculations. You are correct. That 7900 GT min is 400watt. Just ignore my last post.
 
ok so what card do you recon i should get then, going of the picture which i just put on, i dont realy understand it all, and considering i would like to spend less than 70 quid could i get a better card than the 7900 GT

US, Well, I asked because I needed an idea of how much it was in american which 70 quin (pounds) is 102, or 103 in american. I have found a few gpu's for you. These are in american but you get an idea.

Geforce 7900GT is a PCI Express x16.

There is this one, It's a EVGA GeForce 8600 GT

Agian these are American but it gives you an idea. Don't take my word on this. Ask around, get opinions.
