gaming mobo $250 or less

lookin to upgrade my mobo at some point soon. any ideas on a great gaming mobo for 250 clams or less. gonna be used with a gts250, unsure of cpu, corsair 550 psu and thats it so far.

see thats part of the problem. i was gonna upgrade my current cpu on my 780g mobo to a pentium II 3x 720. but if someone can put together a mobo and cpu combo better for gaming that would be nice.

i dont wanna spend much over 450 for a mobo and cpu combo. then ill run 1 gts250 then add another later in sli. not sure about ram yet.

both are within my budget. what are the drawbacks of going dual core for now? and what are the positives of the more expensive cpu?

There would be no drawback with the Dual Core atm, but in the near future, more applications will be coded to make use of multiple cores.

and what are the positives of the more expensive cpu?
It has 2 more cores. lol Better for multitasking and calculation intensive apps.

Actually i would take a look at the amd quadcores, socket 775 if you buy a top end cpu, you would need to get a new mobo+cpu in the future as few or no new processors are planned to be released to socket 775. With amd any future processors should be backwards compatible with am2+/am3 for a few years or so.

honestly....how useful is sli? i think im going for the cool factor and i dont really need it. if its not needed or useful to me... i might go for something like this:

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4538214&CatId=3586

Biostar TA790GX 128M Motherboard Socket AM2+
AMD Phenom II X4 940 3.0GHz Black Edition Quad Core Retail Processor

also sorry im posting so much but its not often i get to use internet on a computer. its usually on my phone. so im trying to get all my ideas out lol.

how does this look? i like the idea of it being bundled together from the place i buy it from. just makes me feel better about it all working together.

That board is overpriced. Look here:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ... 1071737989&name=NVIDIA nForce 790i Ultra SLI

Also, just because someone from Tigerdirect put the parts together doesn't
mean they're guaranteed to work together. They make mistakes too, just like
anyone here could.

The difference is, there's more people here to confirm the compatibility.

If you don't plan to ever run SLI, then save your money. 2 graphics cards
will not get you twice the frame rate. Not even half again as much.

It will gain you a percentage more.
Just a thought about SLI.

just go i7 already:

i7-920 $229 from Fry's or Microcenter on sale
ASUS P6T - $167 open box from newegg.com (it goes for this much every now and then)
G.Skill 3x2GB RAM DDR3-1600 8-8-8-21 $95 shipped newegg.com

Open box mobo's dont include any of the hardware, but for the price you cant beat a foxconn FlamingBlade GTI for $179.99.

im willing to spend 600 bux for cpu, mobo and ram if i go i7. i would like sli if im spendin that much and id like atleast 6gb ram.
