Gaming Monitor

Just thought I'd talk a moment about a certain 19" LCD that is geared towards gaming. After many years of using a CRT monitor I decided to take the plunge with the latest release of Viewsonic's Xtreme VX924 19" 3ms. This thing blows me away! Partly because my CRT was on it's way out and the screen was getting a bit fuzzy while reading text. But this thing is perfect while using office apps and surfing the world wide web. But where it excels is gaming! its very fast with a 3ms response (5ms black to white). But where this thing really excels is at other then native resolutions. Native resolution is the average 1280x1024. In games running a game even at 1024x768 looks almost as good as it does at its native resolution and there still is no ghosting present. So anyone holding on to their CRTs because of the troubles with LCD I say go for it :). The colors on this thing is amazing but it's still not recommended to professional graphic artists etc. but for the rest of us that want a sleek design and basic needs will find this a very good choice.

Are you kidding?

Almost sounds like a fanboy :P. There was not much technical mombo jumbo in the statement anyhow to make me look twice.

Also I just came from using crts for many years so If I say this thing is a decent gaming computer monitor then You might as well believe it :P. I'm speaking from experience after all...

Fellas Please don't turn my thread into a CRT's VS LCD's as that is bullshit. That is not what this thread is about. So lets at least act like adults K?

Edit:

whats CRT?

It still shocks me somtimes that Questions like this is still asked. Take a look here. http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/C/CRT.html It's not "projection".

Nice monitor but you should have gone with the Dell 2005FPW, amazing monitors. Can't wait to get mine. And actaully, people saying that LCD's can't even compare should consider taping their mouths shut because you don't know what your talking about.

Thank you... Yea Dell makes Excellent monitors.

yes dell makes awesome monitors i have a dell 18 inch ultrasharp monitor and its awesome the picture is great. where did you get that monitor from and how much did it cost you.

I got it from a local store called Mega Computer and it cost $478. There are no dead pixels and the image is extremely sharp.

i have the same moniter and it is the best i love it
it plays games in great detail and i think that it can compeat with a crt any day

I'm seeing it more and more where people are referring to hertz as fps. This is incorrect however. You can run your monitor at 60-75 Hertz and still run your game at something like 300+ FPS. With my old CRT I always ran it at 75 Hertz even though it could run higher as there just was no point in doing so. I also played Quake 3 with the FPS locked at 125 FPS. So you see the 75 Hertz did not hold back the game from running 125 FPS. What you want in a decent LCD is about 60 Hertz (higher of course is always better). That blurring you mention has as much to do with response time. For example my monitor is 3ms grey to grey I believe, It's 5ms black to white. This is plenty fast to play a game without the blurring (ghosting). For the ultimate test I installed Need For Speed Underground (first one) and played for a bit. I was shocked how sharp it looked and the cars looked amazing. I could not point out any blurring (ghosting) what so ever.

do you really notice the difference from 8ms to 3ms or 5ms?

Prob. not... I honestly don't know. I've never used an 8ms monitor. This is my first LCD. I don't plan on ever going back :).

never really looked at LCD's so far. just looked into some specs, and all LCD's have a power consumption of max. 220W ( that was a 24.1" eizo LCD.)

thats really good compared to my CRT right now. ( wich uses 1,4A @ 230V, so 345W ), ok, its a 1991 build.. so i cant complain. but when it dies ( after more than 15 years of service :D ). i'll definately have a look into this one.
at least,.. according to your posts you're quite happy with it,.. and a quake gamer should know it.. :D

* Added to my wish-list ^_^

Thanks for correcting me yeah it is hertz i would really love to know your thoughts on the Z-5500 you go there, it is 5500 right? Does it come with a wall mount for the front speaker. do have a problem with the lenghts of the cords?

Yes for Quake 4 and Doom 3 style games the monitor is solid. I notice no ghosting at all and the dark areas of the game don't appear washed out at all. The blacks are black and the whites are white. I ran Need for speed underground because as most of us now it has allot of dark being a night racing game and the movement is fast. There was no ghosting and the cars and city lights where beautifully! they just jump right off the screen.

The Logitech Z-500's are powerful! All speakers allow you to wall mount by the stands (they have holes in them) The middle speaker is not the friendliest to wall mount as I feel the holes should be near the top so the speaker won't try to pull away from the wall. I used wall plugs as well as plastic washers for the center so I could screw that sucker tightly so it would not pull away from the wall. The other speaks though should not have that problem as the screws would be at the top when you wall mount them. I have not done so with them. As for the speaker cable I do have a problem with the length, They are too long for my needs :). I have the rear speakers sitting on stands on either side of my chair so I don't need the really long cables. They are long enough however to reach the other side of the room if one desires. I feel they could be a bit heavier though. The speakers allow for digital or analog connection as well as have a hook up on the side of the controller to allow an I-pod or other such device to be hooked up. There is a headphone jack as well. At 500watts thy have plenty of power and the 10" sub allows for a whole lot of thumping :). I strongly recommend them to anyone who loves to game in surround sound and they are perfect for music and movie watching also.

hmm now for my biggest issue space!... My comp is in a corner of a room parallel to the wall. i got like 4x5 feet of space to use i think thats way too little room for these massisve speakers.
