GeForce 7900 GS Extreme

Well, they said my card was indeed faulty, and they've sent me something with a tracking number, that will be delivered Saturday.

Wonder what it will be...

XFX has earned a loyal customer for life out of all this, I can tell you that for sure.

I'm sure my card was well out of warranty. :o

So how long has it been since you sent the card away? I'm RMAing my 4850, i need a general idea of how long i will be computer-less (no integrated :()

I shipped the card on 12-22-09 and I'll have a card back by 1-9-10

The card didn't get to XFX until 12-31-09 (I chose cheap slow shipping)

Not bad considering there's two Holidays in that time frame. :good:

I'll probably go for express shipping, but the centre is in hong kong so it will still take a few days.

I haven't done it. i would only try if it was out of warranty. It only works for certain problems, like lines across the screen, not other malfunctions.

Agreed. My card worked sometimes, so I was skeptical.

I'm glad just a noob suggested I look into RMA'ing my card.

A new card will be here Saturday. :good: Which one? We'll see....

XFX got back to me and said they sent me a 9500GT.

A little disappointing I guess, but at least I'll have a card that works again. :o

well a 9500gt isn't too bad. i suppose you could stick it in your main rig for physx?

I suppose I could, but I don't play any games that use Physx.

My HTPC could use it though. Been running onboard 6100 for quite a while, and it works fine, but it's a bit laggy with Windows 7 Aero Peek running.

Is a 9500GT is better than a 8600GTS?

My kids pc has an 8600GTS in it, and there's tons of games on that pc, so I'll put the better of the two cards in that pc, and put the weaker one in the HTPC.

I've got an 8600GT and it's not that bad. Not sure how it sizes up against a 8600GTS, but I get decent FPS in games like Crysis on about medium settings, not sure on an exact number but it's definitely playable. The only game I've measured my FPS is Half-Life 2: Deathmatch, which I get around 300 FPS on smaller maps and stay between 150-200 on medium and large maps.

EDIT: I found a review that compares the 8600GT, 9500GT, and 9600GT FPS in Crysis here http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforce-9500-gt-review/8

Cool. Thanks for that. They look very close, but the 9500 clearly comes out on top over the 8600.

I'll put the 9500 in my kids pc then. :)

i only bought the 8600gt so i could play css and bf2 :P

That's a great card actually. Not high end, but I've played many hours of BF2142 on my 8600.
Lower settings (low res with medium detail) I get about 60fps iirc.

EDIT:
I just looked on Newegg, and the link for my 7900GS clearly states, that it came with a Lifetime Warranty.
Cudos anyway for XFX.

That is a bit disappointing. The 7900 is way better than the 9500 GT, except that if I'm right, the 7900 only supports DirectX 9, and the 9500 supports DirectX 10.

I would have thought the same thing, but I found it hard to find similar spec layouts for both cards,
so hard to say. Are stream processors the same as pixel pipelines? lol

I'm sure the 9500 has improvements over the 7XXX series cards, although my 7900 was a 256bit
card and the 9500 is a 128bit card, but it has more memory than my 7900 did. Idk...

You're right about DX10.

All in all, I'm just happy to get a working card out of the deal. :)
