Half Life 2

What? You think I need to buy HL1 as well? Dammit, this is gonna get to spensive!!!!

HL1 is dirt cheap on Steam.

And what does DRM have to do with anything? It's not going to frick up your computer if that's what your asking.

Sigh...nope, never played half life. I'm gonna order it on blackfriday along with my monitor, maybe even a dvd burner.

okay, I have been researching the DRM on all the games and the orange box....from what I can gather, I have to activate it online via steam? If thats the case, then bummer, I might not be able to buy it cuz I have a hell of a time going online with MY computer! Also, I read soemone said steam has to be running in order for me to play the games??? Help appreciated...

Steam does have to be running in the background, but you can run Steam in 'Offline Mode' so you don't have to be online all the time.

Not with the orange box I have. That was specifically the reason I got it, because I was still a little suspicious of what Steam really was back then... Now, this was almost 2 years ago now, so it might have changed.

If in the US you happen to have this:

http://www.game.co.uk/Games/PC-Games/Half-Life-2-The-Orange-Box/~r331494/

then you shouldn't have to dl, you should be able to install it off the disc that it comes with, activiate it over steam and then you will be fine, the only download needed then will be updates when they come out, which isn't often

You'll still need steam running in the background. As far as I know, the only way to launch the game is with steam (thus steam needs to be running). I think you only need to log in once, save your login info, then click run in offline mode (and Im pretty sure you dont need internet after that but sometimes i've seen weird messages saying the game can't start without internet).

Yup. Once you log in once, you can check "Run Offline Mode" or "Sign in offline" and you can play. As far as installing the games from the disc, I have no idea how to do that.

LAST QUESTION: Install limits?

LAST QUESTION: Install limits?
Pretty sure.

And

No install limits.

Correct, speaking from experience; there is a one time log-in and register, and then any time that you want to install the game again, it's just a matter of reinstalling the game, I don't think you even have to log-in and do the register again. As for the updates, you can do as many as frequently as you like...
