is my HDD temp at 48C good?

Not at all.... all of the hard drives ive ever seen have been at no more than 30 degrees

my older 80Gb WD Caviar idles at 31 and goes to 33 when in full use. my newer 120Gb Seagate stays at 30 no matter what i do to it, your answer. no 48 is not good at all, invest £1.87 in a HDD cooler like this one....

As stated earlier, it's not good. My HDD idles at ~26-28ºC.

psshit, my crap is a 38C idle, and thats WITH a harddrive cooler...

Oh, jeez. After idling a while, I get 36°C, and during a heavy defrag, I get 57°C This is NOT what I wanted to hear. WD said max temp for my drive should get no more than 55°C.

Yea, try to get it down to 40C or less.

wow, i thought mine were hot for hard drives, 55 is just crazy , thats hoter than most peoples CPU's, lol (including mine now i have better cooling)

40C is the max temp that most hard drive manufacturers recommend. Anything higher than that lowers performance and decreases product life.
