HDMI cable dying?

I've been getting frequent screen flickers when playing games on my PS3 hooked up to my Samsung 37" HDTV. Could this be the cable going bad? Cause the system is fine. When it flickers both the audio and video go. The flickers last for a split second.

is it only when playing ur ps3 or does it do it even when watching tv, u could try a dif system hooked up through hdmi just to test it

this isnt a cable problem, its a problem with the hdmi hdcp handshaking issues, it cant establish a stable connection when switching resolutions, its happened to a number of brand of tv's here in NA especially older westinghouses, the real solution until a firmware update comes is to turn the tv off and back on or unplug the hdmi cable and plug it back in, hope this helps.

it's only the PS3. i don't have any other device that hooks up to HDMI so i can't test.

but i haven't changed my res. i've been playing on 1080p since i've gotten my ps3.

i registered to a playstation forum and was told that static could be a problem and was adviced to do that as well. lol

hmmm. so i've done what others have been suggesting to remove the ps3 and tv as well as the hdmi cables from the socket and each other respectively since my problem might be cause by static electricity. some said to at least leave it unplugged for 10 mins, i left mine for 2 and a half hours and still no success.

then i thought that most of the people(youtube and google searching) who suffer from this are on 1080i. so i downgraded the res on my ps3 to 720p and voila! no flickering! i guess it doesn't hurt that i play on 720p since HD is HD for me. but what can be the cause of this? faulty HDMI cable?

My brothers HDMI cable to his computer that he hooked to the TV died, so its possible. They are usually pretty expensive, I had a friend do me a favor and get me a discount from the store he works at (25 footer, $150, rocketfish) ended up costing me $16. So goodluck getting a new one!

Lower end HDMI cables cannot handle the throughput of 1080i, as its literally twice the resoloution of 720p.
