Help building great games machine for $500?

I hope the Core 2 Duos drop in price soon. They are overpriced. The E7400 is presently about $120 and the E8400 is a rediculous $165 still. A fair price for the E7400 would be about $75 in my opinion.

For the current price of the Core 2 Duo processors you could get a Phenom II processor. Almost all the Phenom II processors beat all the Core 2 Duo processors.

It makes no sense to me why anyone would want an E8400 Dual-Core for $165 when they could get a Phenom II 810 Quad-Core for $175 or a Core 2 Quad Q8200 for $165.
