help installing xp

I am booting from CD and have gotten as far as deleting the current partition but do not know how to proceed thru the next screens. First screenshot: If I select select "Unpartitioned space" it tells me there is not enough space, if I select "D: Partition2" then second screenshot appears. What do I need to do?

You need to delete the D: partition which will then be added to the unpartitioned space. After that, you will be able to create a new partition in the unpartioned space.
 
It means there is an existing OS currently on the drive. The smaller partition is the place where the boot information sits.

You need to format the partition to erase the data first. Just delete it and create it again. It will automatically format when you install.
 
Ok, thanks..... Follow-up question, I am still having issues. I have installed a drivers disk as well. I can connect to msn homepage, but not other internet sites. I get the following error message: (I have the windows firewall set to On (recommended), I have no virus protection installed (can't go online to download), and under LAN settings Use proxy server in Unchecked.)

What does the internet connection icon say at the bottom down by the clock? Is there a red x on it?

there is a red X for local connection but I i have "excellent strength "wireless connection.

I chose xp because that is the product key that I had on back of laptop, disc did not come with a product key.
 
Didn't know you were using wireless. Just a thought, I saw this years ago as well. Make sure you are using the correct wireless driver. Have you tried using command and pinging a website and checking response?

i downloaded all the drivers that were on the disc (27) not sure how to make sure I am using the correct wireless driver? I did try connecting with ethernet cable directly to modem and was only able to access msn homepage as well. Under network connections it shows wirelless and local are connection connected and firewalled. I also do not know how to use command and ping a website and check response.
 
In the run box type cmd and hit enter. A block box will pop up, this is the command window. Type ping www.google.com hit enter and check response time or error messages.

Will look similar to this.

let us know what the output says as far as sent, received, lost and what pint time you have in ms. The ping is where it says time= 12ms
 
It's possible. Is everything installed in device manager or do you still have some unknown devices? Anything with yellow question marks? Is this a store bought pc or custom built? Can you post model number of pc or model of motherboard if custom built.
 
everything was installed from driver dvd that was recommended if that is what you are reffering to , Windows recommended not installing these two but I did anyway to see if it would work, it did not:

- DP_Modem_15021.7z
Conexant HDA 330 MDC V.92 Modem

- IDT high def Audio CODEC
The laptop is a Dell D630, it was working fine before I accidentially deleted a driver, that is why I installed a new OS and drivers disk, the discs were bought off ebay and not oem.
 
You need a newer web browser. IE 6 doesn't connect to a lot of websites anymore.
