help - pc won't boot from cd drive

C stands for cable select, which means it depends on where that drive is on the cable, the one furthest away from the motherboard will be master and the shortest will be slave.

I never liked running my drives on Cable select.

You should change the jumpers so that the one furthest away on the ide cable is master and the closest is slave. Then reboot.
 
Cable select is Ideal IMO. No messing with the jumpers, And if you ever need to switch, just move the drives, or twist that damn cable to fit like you want.
