So what do I do. I can't belive that reformating my HDD didn't work >.>

You don't reformat a drive just for an IE problem. You probably wiped the one thing left over that could have shown what was originally used. What was IE 6 like before you started downloading with the one or more exe links? Did something create a new value in the system registry for you?

FireFox 2.0

theres the solution

Have you found out first if IE is required for downloads from certain sites? Despite how good FF is some things still require "IE only"! Sorry there's no exceptions for FF 2.0 since that's the way it is.

Yea, but it needed to be cleaned out anyway. I needed it clean for Oblivion and Dark Messiah.

And yes, I could get FF, but I would still have to have a friend download it ;)

Its also not ALL download. just .exe ones. I can dl .zip, .ace, .rar, .wav, .mp3 etc etc. Just not .exe.

Your security settings are still one thing to look over. After toying around with IE security settings some time back I found that it was easier to download updates that also were in self extracting files with exe extensions. What you may need to find now is a workaround for IE 7. And you are not the only one having this problem downloading exe files apparently. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20061104045438AA5EHrC

Run a search with the title "can't download exe files" and you will find a ton of threads that go back years on this. Sometimes your ISP makes a change or your new firewall program will hamper download of any self extracting or self executing type files due to the coding.

Often they are seen as viruses even with the fresh install of Windows you just had. What you will probably need now is a way to allow an exception for executable file types. With SP2 and above antivirus is more of an issue as mentioned in the IE and OE features for XP at http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/ieoeoverview.mspx The main difference between all other file extensions and exe is that it's an executable compared to others that rely on a program already installed.

Yes, I saw that yahoo page. And I did a lot of searching before coming here for help, none of those sites offered any help *or the help just didn't help*, or the problem was slightly diffrent then mine.

And like I said I can donwload .rar, and .exe, and the such, thusly if I can find the download in a zipped form that would be great, but unfortuanatly I can't. Like yesturday the new Windows Defender came out :/. And with it bugging the crap out of me all day, I had to wait till my friend got online to download, then zip, and send it to me.

With the OS or IE seeing them as virus, wouldn't putting ALL my security settings to "off, none, or lowest" fix that? Becuase I tried that.

Anyway, I ran Avast! with a thourogh boot check, no virus. I ran the new windows defender with a full system scan and archived folders, no spyware, malware, the such.

I'm just going to wait for Vista Ultimate .. what a month and a half left. That'll fix everything.

And FireFox I hate, I would rather live with not being able to DL .exe files for a month and a half then download that crap. It screwed up everything last time I had it, plus I hate the interface. As I said before, so please don't post becuase I just see it as spam.

You shouldn't even bother with the Windows Defender since that is about as useless as FireFox is to you! :p That catches little if anything as far as adwares, spywares, viruses, or other types of malwares. AVG 7.5 and Grisoft's new version of Ewido, AVG Anti-Spyware Free do far more making WD look like it is standing still. If you are connecting through a router like cable or dsl the firewall may now be playing more of a role at this time since you wiped whatever was working for you previously.

Before wiping the drive and too much too time passed after putting IE 7 on you may have been able to roll back with a system restore to where you were. Now you will have to recreate the exact same software environment to see results if the links don't provide any help. There's one thing mssing since you first ran IE 7 that you have to find again. Apparently that bypassed whatever is preventing the downloads now.
