help with new laptop purchase

I'd say go with #1.
Considering you won't be doing that much gaming, it won't really matter what your processing speed is. (Even though the graphics cards you have on both of those are wicked)
If all you'll be doing are basic things, then it won't really make much of a difference to have either the one or the other in terms of processing speed.

So, in the long run, you'll probably want #1; it will last you longer, and you'll have many more options.

Now, would anybody like to help me with my laptop dilemma?

I might upgrade to 4 gigs eventually but for now 3 is working well. I've tried to push my laptop with multitasking and gaming and i'm surprised by how well it performs.
