I'm tired of upgrading my computer all the time and I really hate spending all that money. I would like to start saving it hahaha. However I want to upgrade my computer one last time but all my parts were propietary or however you spell it so I can't use any aftermarket stuff. It is a Pavilion a730n and I gave it 2 gigs of RAM and a Radeon X1900XTX... however while playing games like Supreme Commander I'm starting to see slowdowns in the game when too much stuff is going on at the same time so I'm guessing its the processor department. Unfortunately I can't upgrade it so I'm deciding to buy a new computer. I WANT an Alienware but its a little too expensive so I'm thinking Dell. Let me know if this is a good build for strictly gaming and without having to upgrade it for awhile please :)

dont get that!! thats way to expensive and the ram is complete overkill and the video card is horrible!

build your own, for 1500 building you can double that performance. or you can buy the parts and have your local computer store build it for you. or one of us.

but you can get double of that perforance for 1500 building, dont get that!

strongly agree!! let me just list the prices out of my head if you buy the parts separately...

E6700 - $350
Vista Premium - $200/300?
RAM - Corsair XMS 2gb - $250
HDD 250 GB - $75
DVD-RW DL lightscribe - $80
monitor 22" - $350
video card 7900GS(way better!) - $190
sound card - ???

TOTAL: aprox $1550 (just as joeswm8 said!):D

You already have the X1900XTX, correct? If you decide to build, we would be glad to point you in the right directions as far as components go.

Haha thank you, I was going through one of those compulsive buy modes and I was just about to buy that rig but then I thought, wait I should do a little research. I don't necessarily have a problem with building a computer as I get the basics, but I wouldn't say I have "advanced" computer knowledge. Its hard to understand where performance and computers stand up to other. What I mean is having situational awareness of how good a computer is in relation to top-of-the-line vs. crappy-rip-off. Yes I have the 1900XTX 512mb but the reviews I've read said thats one of the best single card, but now everything is going dual card... I'm like "great" more money... I'am a perfectionist when it comes to gaming, meaning the games have to be "butter" smooth or I get frusturated and taken out of the immersion. From what I've read the e6700 is a pretty good processor and I thought I'd get 4 gigs just to have it and not have to worry about getting more... but as for the rest of the stuff I have no idea...

The thing is, most applications at the moment dont require 4 GB not even as recommended, (unless you're going to be graphic designing, lol) so 2 GB of good ram should do for now until more advanced DX10 games and other programs come, but for now, i'd say good 2 GB ram and a good GPU would do good. But of course, more ram never hurts... just as an observation :)

If you really want to upgrade, then you could go with an 8800GTX. Is it worth it right now? No. I'd say to wait until more DX10 cards come out.

Why does everyone recommend the E6300???? get the E6600. its got 4mb L2 cache, plus your not gonna overclock, right?

Yeah 2gb of RAM and the 1900XTX is good but my CPU is bottlenecking all that power... really if I could just get a new processor I would be perfect. I was told by the company and people and CompUSA I couldn't upgrade the Pavilion a730n and that no other motherboards would fit... therefore I have to get a WHOLE new computer.

You don't need quite a whole new computer, just the processor, motherboard, memory, case, and maybe a power supply.

What do you mean, a while to build or a while to ship?? lol either one, its ok, it wont take long...
