Hi im running a 32bit on my xps 420 i was just wondering how would i go about upgrading to 64bit im using vista home premium. Any help is well appreciated
I don't see why not.
What os are you using?
Does it have Vista and your moving to Windows 7?
Run this advisor to make sure, as I didn't see any Dell info on moving it to 7, but it shouldn't be a prob. Looks like you would loose Dell warranty and support, if that matters.

You would need an upgrade disk. You can buy them online which is probably the easiest way

Since upgrading from 32 to 64 isn't doable, you'll need to buy the 64 bit and install it.
Altho there's a way to save data within the move, it's best to back up all your data to a diff. location first.
On that link you just should be its saying the only way i can install it is if i reinstall vista and choose 64bit in the installing process is this right?
I found this:
From Dell - you can request a 64-bit version of your OS through Dell, but you have to invoke a special "DSN Document ID 158098" rule with Tech Support, and it sounds like they won't always accept it, or it might take a long time.
Sounds like that ^ route or buy the 64 bit os.
If you have a disc with that option i guess you could try it.but why dont i do the simple way reinstall vista and in the custom installation select 64bit how does that sound ?

The disc only come with one bit type. I think you'll find that $ is the only way to get 64 bit on there. Newegg has 7 home for $100. I didn't look for vista.
