How do I clean an LCD Monitor?

Hi everyone. I have an LCD Monitor that is in desperate need of cleaning with something other than a damp washrag that has been made wet with water. What other cleaners can I use that are safe to use on my LCD screen?

Go to your local computer store (Best Buy, Circuit City, etc) and pic up some 'Monitor Cleaner' or Screen Wipes.

It works great on any electronic screens you wanna clean.

Is it a rather hard surface like seen with KDS lcds or a soft vinyl typical of most others? The typical wipes sold in any office suppliy store like Staples are antistatic wipes. They tend to dry out fast and seem a little abrasive after a period of time however.

For tv screens and other consumer electronics where they become dust magnets one alternative solution is simply wiping them down with the typical antistatic wipes you toss in with your clothes in a dryer when doing your laundry. Those are a bit softer and are not moist where there is any worry about becoming dried up.

I could add "whatever works for you" :P ...best that is. You certainly wouldn't any type of powered cleaner like Boraxo or Comet! or anything else with any type of abrasiveness.

One other option to mention is screen overlays where the actual surface of the display is covered over. You can then pick and choose any non harsh cleaning method for the overlay rather the actual lcd portion.

I believe my screen is of the soft vinyl type. I know that if you press on it hard enough, it makes a little ripple effect. Of course, I know better than to press on the screen hard enough because it can tear the screen up. I came across the ripple effect once by accident when touching the screen after I first got it.

Flents wipe'Nclear. Anti-fog/anti-static. Good for glasses, computers, face shields, and goggles.

I saw a box of a couple hunred of these wipes and bought the. I only use them on my tv and comp monitors, but they work great. They seem like they are just coffee filter material soaked lightly with rubbing alcohol.

That's the most common type of surface for most makes and models seen there. Some like KDS do see a thin hard surfaced screen however rather then a soft faced that can be see damage easy enough. Behind the surface many see a large plastic sheet for support.

None will tolerate any hard impacts like if something hard should fall against the screen. Keep that in mind. But for simply pressing hard with your fingers without realizing while cleaning the vinyl will generally spring back being flexible to the greater extent.

Coffee filters themselves are simply a fine meshed paper material and non abrasive. But the antistatic type are even a finer grade there seeing a special treatment as well as the type of cleaning solution they are soaked in generally in large vats or sprayed while on a large roll which would sound more likely.
