is that true? isnt there a certain amount of plug-ins or whatever from the psu to the hard drives?TheChef said:As many as you can fit.![]()
I'd be interested to know how many Amps all that lot would pull. In reality it's usually dependent on the number of bays to hold them (internal) and number of USB/Firewire ports (external), but if all IDE then like Bobo says, four max.Bobo said:Well it is limited to the number of connectors on the PSU (for internal), but theoretically you could have around 150.
up to 4 connected to IDE
up to 8 connected to SATA (that's the most I have seen)
up to 8 connected via a SCSI card ( I think, not too sure)
up to 127 via USB
at least 10 using Firewire
so that adds up to 167, and you could technically have more than that....
You'll need to plan whether they will fit in the case (assuming internal), and plan the connections to the pc, but yes that's feasible.jamie_2k6 said:so i could easilly get about 5 or 6 if i want to keep adding to my reli shitty 40gb ?
That would be a waste when you can get a 500GB hdd for cheaper than 5 100GB hddsjamie_2k6 said:so i could easilly get about 5 or 6 if i want to keep adding to my reli shitty 40gb ?
Well it depends on the mobo....I saw one (don't know what it was) that had 6 SATAII and 4 SATA, along with the 2 IDEHairy_Lee said:well i could fit about 9 in my cooler master stacker case... you'd need some add in controller cards to use that many though
I thought you can have unlimited trought USBs. Can you actually have only 127 USBs in total?up to 127 via USB

Wikipedia said:A USB system has an asymmetric design, consisting of a host controller and multiple daisy-chained devices. Additional USB hubs may be included in the chain, allowing branching into a tree structure, subject to a limit of 5 levels of branching per controller. Not more than 127 devices, including the bus devices, may be connected to a single host controller. Modern computers often have several host controllers, allowing a very large number of USB devices to be connected. USB cables do not need to be terminated. USB 2 uses bursts, unlike FireWire.
Why not? You would have to have external power, thoughHairy_Lee said:not that they would be usable to be honest
I'm sure there's some way to get around that...TheChef said:Well, of course, we couldn't go above the 26 lettered disk limit in Windows...
