how many hardrives can you have in one computer

i was just wondering how many hardrives u can put in one computer my mate said two but i fort u could have more can any one help me
 
Well it is limited to the number of connectors on the PSU (for internal), but theoretically you could have around 150.

up to 4 connected to IDE
up to 8 connected to SATA (that's the most I have seen)
up to 8 connected via a SCSI card ( I think, not too sure)
up to 127 via USB
at least 10 using Firewire

so that adds up to 167, and you could technically have more than that....

I'd be interested to know how many Amps all that lot would pull. In reality it's usually dependent on the number of bays to hold them (internal) and number of USB/Firewire ports (external), but if all IDE then like Bobo says, four max.

You'll need to plan whether they will fit in the case (assuming internal), and plan the connections to the pc, but yes that's feasible.

That would be a waste when you can get a 500GB hdd for cheaper than 5 100GB hdds
 
well i could fit about 9 in my cooler master stacker case... you'd need some add in controller cards to use that many though

Well it depends on the mobo....I saw one (don't know what it was) that had 6 SATAII and 4 SATA, along with the 2 IDE

There you have it. I don't know if my computer has multiple controllers, but it probably does. So just 127 per controller. Like anybody would ever use that many anyway.:rolleyes:
