cant get passed it upon boot up. it wont allow me into bios or safe mode. wont load recovery disks.

i need to reformat but back up my data.

... and no its not my motherboard..

... and yes i went through tech support and they couldnt help me.

Try disconnecting all hardware not needed at bootup. Only keep 1 stick of ram, keyboard, mouse, video, unhook the hard drive. Then see if the machine boots. If not then I would say you need to reset the cmos by removing the battery or jumpers. What did Hp have you do?

Looks like Hp wasn't very thorough. And how do you know that its not the motherboard thats bad? The next step would be to reset the cmos.

they told me the motherboard wasnt bad because by removing the ram and starting up the machine i heard a beeping which they said indicated the motherboard is ok.

how do i reset the cmos?

Here is a picture of your motherboard. Usually all you do is unplug power from the power supply, remove the cmos battery, press the power button on the case a few times to discharge any power still on the motherboard. Then put that battery back in and reconnect power to power supply.

The cmos battery is what I circled in red.

did that, still get the blue screen.

Remove keyboard and mouse and try again. Try using a dedicated video card if you are using the onboard or try a different dedicated card if you are already using one. The last step would be to use a different power supply. If it still don't work then its either motherboard or cpu problem

before this happened i had no memory left on the hard drive literally like 200MB so i was just about to reformat. is there a way i cant reformat from the disks? evrn though they wont load... how can i get into safe mode?

If you can't get past the HP invent screen then you can't boot to safe mode and you can't reinstall windows. Did you disconnect the hard drive to see if that was stopping you from booting? If the drive is bad it will stop the pc from booting usually.

how do i disconnect it?

OMG!!! I can't believe HP didn't have you disconnect it. All you do is remove the power connector and the sata data cable from the drive.

Do you know what a hard drive looks like? These are pictures of a hard drive, not necessarily yours though. See in the first image, you have 2 connections next to each other. Pull off both cables attached to those ports.

Most likely its your hard drive thats bad since you can now get past that screen, try getting a new one and install it and then you should be able to install windows.
