Software: Microsoft Works 8, Microsoft Money, Quicken 2006, Adobe Reader 7.0, Sonic DigitalMedia Plus, InterVideo WinDVD 5 Player

now it doent have a monitor but thats not a problem i can get a new one to match and until i do i have a 15" CRT laying around so i can use that, i have XP Pro SVP 1 and 2 so when it comes time to reformate thats what i would put as the OS, i would need to buy speakers, an external floppy drive and a external dvd burner (the burner to share with my couisn)

thats exactly what my comp looks like except i got a 2.8 gh.. its big, its got plenty of ram even for gaming, the processor is a little to slwo for my liking i say no less than a 2.4 also depending on what you want the comp for you should consider a video card

oh iw as looking at futureshops website and they dont got much for good buys if you live in Canada find a place like computer trends or compusmart.... or even better go for ebay

Correction that computer is pretty much crap. Bad video card, bad proc, mostly everything is bad for that price. You could build a computer for that for wayyyy cheaper. Have you considered building your own?

Wouldn't you like to save even more money on the exact same model? http://www.shop.com/op/aprod-p38310567?sourceid=13 US there however. Why not internal floppy drive? But a 5 1/4" adapter doesn't always look that good while a zip drive could be another option. The Pavillion is generally favored here over the Compaq line now owned by HP however. For a look at one Presario with a slightly higher price, http://www.thesourcecc.com/estore/P...ine&category=Desktops_English&product=2511363

That doesn't make in sense. Building your own would not be more expensive then a dell with the same parts.

Correction there fast! You can custom build a new "High End" gaming system that will run easily into the thousands US or Canadien real fast. Don't forget SLI and Crossfire setups alone with the latest cards also have the latest big price tags for being the newest. Memory used to be the big cost while boards also run up a good tab when first out and then there is the cpu itself depending on model and how new it is along with some elaborate cooling setups like air conditioned cases, water coolers, and a few other items. The cost goes up even further when you have a custom system assembled for you instead of ordering parts separately.

i did not say the same parts i said practically the same parts, the manufacturer of the parts would change. But dont forget when you buy a computer from dell your not paying for parts like you would when you would build one

That's precisely correct. A company like Dell may substitute one manufacturer for another when they run out of replacement parts especially seen with older models. Different companies will provide hardwares for Dell, HP, once upon a time Epson, AST, Compaq(now HP owned), Packard Bell, etc.. When Dell, HP, or another contracts a company they may provide parts for a specific series of models until a later date when a second company makes a higher bid on the next line. The new supplier may charge more for parts where they are for special orders like replacement parts for discontinued models if they have to special tool for them.

I can build a faster system with that amount of cash! (without monitor). That cpu wouldn't cut it if you're into gaming and stuff! For basic office apps and surfing, this pc would be great!

lately I've been seeing ads for complete systems(not eMachine either) with 512mb of ram, an 80gb hd, and cd-r/rw/dvd drive added for $399-. But I wouldn't even buy it for some kid I know of needing for school. I'll put a "basic" system together that would still pass those by being flexible whether the price goes up or down a small amount. With custom cases you can easily modify things after they are built. You always have something in the way like proprietary recovery tools stuffed on a hidden partition, must use their recovery disk in order to reinstall Windows, and a few other things when you go for complete builds sold by retail chains while some complete builds can be ordered to your specifications with a generic label.

I am sorry I don't really know what you are saying. I was just saying that you can build a computer with the same parts of a certain dell model for less the price of the dell.

well the dell i wuz looking @ has a 3.0 dual core pd a 256 mb nvidia gefore video card, sound blaster audigy sound card, 2 gig ram, 250 gig hdd
and the computer i priced to build myself came to 2 gran without a monitor

You can essentially build a number of systems for less than the retail price of many complete systems sold online or in stores. But you will have to obtain the individual components for less then replacement costs. Remember that now what used to cost $5,000-$10,000 at one time has fallen to the $400- mark due to the market's drive for competition. If you are the self builder type you can also save on what is known as bare bones kits where you have the basics just needing this or that to boost it up a little.

Are you aware that the top 5 1/2" bay has a cd rom drive in it? Take another look at the link and use the image viewer. http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10073081&catid=
