The processor you picked won't work with that motherboard. If you go with that motherboard then you are restricted to FM1 socket processors which are these.

I would actually go with an am3+ build. You may end up spending a little more but its well worth it in my opinion.

it means that an aftermarket graphics card is necessary or you won't be able to use a monitor. and for the am3 build look at this i guess, then that 965 from your other post, first will be for the price, second is just the cheapest best one, i'd rec the second

EDIT: Meant better than the one but cheaper then the other and for what he wants this is cheaper. You don't need the latest and greatest chipset.

Well no monitor is the reason all this got started!!This board says it has onboard video http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...-na&AID=10521304&PID=4169961&SID=47yk1sj75b8k.
Will it work with everything else? Will I have a monitor to watch videos? Can a graphics card be added later for games?
I have speakers that plug into the back of the HP. Will they work with this board?

I changed the board on page #2 post #11. I will wait till tomorrow evening before I order everything. If anyone feels something should be changed please point it out.

overclocking is increasing your CPU speed beyond what the stock speed is. Its not hard if you have a unlocked CPU (955 and up quad core AMD, 1090 and up Hex core AMD, 2500k and 2600k Intel), as you just increase the multiplier (how many times your BUS speed is multiplied to get CPU speed, 20*100 vs 22*100 would net 2GHz vs 2.2GHz.
If you do not wish to OC, then you are set. If you wish to OC, then you will need an aftermarket cooler and some better Paste, like AS5.

Total of this build comes to $540. Not bad we only went $40 over but there is $25 in mail in rebates. So really only $15 over, the HP cost like $600 at bestbuy 4 years ago.
