HP desktop prob

it should still work. That RAM is not listed as supported, but the support list says its not a full list. The support list has many DDR3-1600 modules listed, so these should work too.

Need help cant get OS to download. Think the Hard Drive might be bad.
It is making a clicking and whinning noise.

Can somebody walk me through getting this computer set up?

This is what happens. Turn on computer and a gigabyte screen comes up. Install windows 7 disk and it ask if I want to upgrade or install new. Ive tryed both but when I select install new. After awile a screen comes up asking where do you want to install windows. Only 1 option comes up in the list and it says. Disk 0 unallocated space total size 465.8GB free space 465.8GB. When I select this it will run awile then this pops up. Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computers hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disks controller is enabled in the computers BIOS menu.

During all this the hard drive is very noisy making a clicking and whining noise.

Need some help as Im about to say screw it and go to bestbuy and buy a new hard drive.

If the drive is clicking then its bad and needs to be returned for a replacement. clicking means the head has crashed.

Just got back from bestbuy where I bought a seagate 1tb hard drive. Installed hard drive and inserted windows. Everything is working and windows is installing now.

After windows is done what do I need to change in bios?

Thanks

Go into the bios and you should see an option for MIT which stands for motherboard intelligent tweaker.

Change "set memory clock" to manual
change "memory clock" to "x8.00"

Then it should say 1600 to the right, at least mine does anyway. Or you may have to go in and manually enter the timings for that specific memory.

Okay thanks will do that next.

Right now windows is asking for an activation code and the one on the case I got is not working. Windows asked if I wanted to go online to activate and I said yes. Then windows said something about not finding a driver or something.

I am now installing the driver disk that came with the board hoping that will fix it. But windows keep warning that I might be a victim of software counterfeiting.

You have to use the key that came with the cd, which the sticker with the key should be attached to the back of the plastic case the cd came in. If you used some other key, then thats the issue.

Yeah I did that, I think I was missing some ethernet driver that was on the gigabyte disk. After installing that I was able to connect to the net and windows seems to be working ok and the warning has stopped.

Just setting my homepage and things now. Gonna see If I cant figure out how to make the change in bios next.

Sucks my hard drive was bad. I dont know if the one from bestbuy is as good but it works! The other one was sata 6gb and this one is sata3gb everything else is the same except instead of only 500gb I now have 1tb.
