HP ENVY 5540 DESKTOP PRINTER PROBLEM

Hi all,

I haven't posted in a while. I haven't had any Desktop PC or accessory problems in a while, so I guess that's a good thing. Right? :)

Recently, I tried to print something but it came out grayis and only partially. So, thinking that it was my printer, I checked my printer and it looks like I have enough ink.

So what could also be the problem? Thouhgts?

Inkjet printers require that you print at least a few times a month so that the ink doesn't dry up and clog the nozzles. Have you tried printhead cleaning multiple times?

Oh HI Johnb35!

So good to hear from you again! No, I hadn't thought of that. Thank you! I hardly print at all so that must be why! Would you happen to be able to send me a link as to how to clean the nozzles? I may have mentioned a while back that I got this all in one HP Envy 5540 printer from my daughter when my old Cannon finally gave out? Therefore, I know VERY little about it as far as cleaning the printheads and nozzles etc.

Thanks again for the reply, and if you respond to this today remember that I will be going offline for the weekend at 3PM PST. But, I will be back here on Monday.

I saw your post before you deleted it. In order to clean the printheads you can go into the printers settings using the onscreen menu on the printer itself.

To clean the printhead on an HP Envy 5540, use the built-in tool: Go to Setup > Tools > Clean Printhead on the printer display. Alternatively, use the HP Smart app or HP Printer Assistant on your computer to run the cleaning cycle. For severe clogs, remove the cartridges and gently clean the copper contacts with a lint-free cloth and distilled water.

Automated Printhead Cleaning (Best First Step)
  1. Load Paper: Ensure plain white paper is loaded in the tray.
  2. Access Menu: On the printer control panel, tap the Setup icon (wrench).
  3. Run Tool: Select Tools, then select Clean Printhead.
  4. Check Quality: The printer will print a test page. If print quality is poor, run a second or third cleaning cycle.

Hi Johnb35!
Hope you don't mind but I coppied your reply and put it below mine so it's back in the correct order. When I last replied I saw that it had posted twice so I deleted one.
I don't have Setup > Tools > Clean Printhead on the printer display. It's a little screen with black and white words and icons. On the top from left to right is Copy, Scan, and Printables. Below that is a row of 4 icons. The fourth one is the icon of a black ink drip which is where I saw how much ink I still have. One or more of the first three icons also has a gear icon and I did lookinto those. But nothing I saw at first glance reffered to cleaning.

Also, I see none of these on my printer:
  1. Access Menu: On the printer control panel, tap the Setup icon (wrench).
  2. Run Tool: Select Tools, then select Clean Printhead.

It's probably gear icon and then look for maintenance and then cleaning or something similar. It's pretty self explanatory once you get into the menu.

I'll undelete your post and delete the copy of mine so it doesn't get confusing.
