Hello,

I have a Linksys 2.4 wireless router in my basement and the signal upstairs is not as great as I would like.

I heard that I can extend the signal using a access point.
I have a upstairs office that has a wired ethernet cable that is connected to the router in the basement. can I connect the access point to that up stairs office ethernet cable and configure it to be used to just extend the signal coming from my router in the basement?

If the answer is yes which I believe it will be can someone please tell me what has to be done or even better direct me to a page that has instructions.

Please when you give me answers, I know quite abit about computers and I understand networking but only basics so please don't talk too techie.......lol

Thanks in advance

yes

log in to the access point (type its ip in the URL bar) the AP must have its SSID, Channel, and Encryption settings the exact same as the AP whose signal it is to repeat. you also have to enter the mac address of the router.

or use DD-WRT

not exactly accurate. my linksys AP uses a different channel and encryption than my netgear. mostly use it for my psp which doesn't like WPA, so i have it set to WEP.

but anyways, i forgot how i set it up or i would post here :(
