I just bought RAM and it's not working.. can someone tell me why?

I believe I bought dual sided dimms, they have memory chips on both sides of the card and the ones that came in the computer don't.
I guess this is the problem, that sucks!!!

The single sided dimms will only see a row of ICs on one side only. This is one of the main problems seen on the older prebuilds where there are limits on the memory you can run. Apparently like I thought the board runs strictlly the single sided or strictly value type ram.

When I go to upgrade the current custom build here I will need new memory according to what the new board will support. The main advantage will be being able to look over just what the board will support before ordering that alone. Unfortunately HP like others doesn't provide any specifics there since you are expected to buy replacement memory and other hardwares through them or someone who can match things up for the model you have.

When this happens 2gb of PC3200 DDR400 memory gets tossed for roughly 2-3gb of DDR2 800, 1066, or ? for most likely an AM2 model if not AM3 board. Just using the same case, supply, and drives will still see a few good C notes spent there. If you could drop another Asus 939 model board in you could use the new memory there. But most likely you would be looking for an entirely newer build for DDR2 memory at some point.

I tested the RAM in my friends computer and it didn't work! His motherboard supports 4GB (1GBx4) of ram and it also supports dual sided dimms. here is a link to his motherboard specs http://support.mpccorp.com/apps/specs.asp?ID=7431 here is a link to my motherboard specs http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...&cc=us&dlc=en&docname=c00041640#c00041640_doc and here is a link to the RAM I got http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...widgettype=cross_promot_widget &isfrommerc=1 so currently I'm thinking that the ram is bad, what do you all think?

I wouldn't buy Samsung memory to begin with or buy on EBay since you never know there. The HP does show that it takes both single and dual sided memory. There is no information on Cas or anything provided at EBay which leaves two questions remaining. Timings or defective? Since they won't run on your friend's case either I think you know which one is the answer there. Next time order from newegg, mwave, TigerDirect, or some place that you know has a good return policy.

The link you supplied suggests you bought high density ram, not compatiable with low density and a lot of motherboards, of which yours is not listed. To confirm density, if there is a 128x4 tag anywhere its high density, if it's a 64x8 tag it's low density and should work. Voltage has nothing to with density. About all I know about high and low density. Cas was listed as 2.5, 3 so I suppose its 3
Saw a website discusssing high dens vs low dens, it claimed that high density was slower and used more in servers. Anyone know if this is true?
