Gee? I'll wait for a period of time and build one for under $1,000 that will bust hump. A nice air conditioned case sounds better here then water cooled. http://www.colorcases.com/products/productdetails.asp?main_catid=1&catid=91&prodid=394 2GB of DDR2 would also go well at that time along with a good 5550-600w psu.:D

ugg.. i thought it was x4 512s.. 2000 total of memory graphics
didnt know it was x2 dual GTs

Ya, they use dual video cards, which is basically two video cards built into one. They do have real quad-sli which uses 4x pci-e video cards, but i dont think they sell them retail. The motherboard alienware uses is a A8N-SLI motherboard i believe, and they only have 2 PCI-E x16 slots.

Right now the only thing the PhysX card does is slow down game performance.
Not true anymore :)

which I guess it isn't since you're looking at $5,000 systems
Oh goodness have you forgotten some of the crazy budgets that have gone through here? ;) Like this

i despise alienware....basically you are paying a whole lot more money than you could be for the logo of alienware and a nice looking case...
Thats a potentially overly broad statement. Have a look at the Bot line up :)

and what is wierd is.. the alx dual and quad is almost hte same only 200$ differnce.. thats why im asking, is it a website mistake?? or is x4 GT cards not GTX?
It's two cards. The cards just pack multiple cores so to speak :)

ok great, how about you guys help me build a 5000$ system
Hmm with a 5K budget i'd have to cut back a few things but here goes
Left some room for an EATX case of sorts :)

thats weird, because amd doesn't support ddr2, it only takes ddr400
Sure it do :)

if you add 512mb + 512mb which are your video cards that is 1gb and you have 2 gb of ram so with those video cards you will only have 1gb of ram for your computer to use. 160gb IMO is not enough. I have a 250GB hard drive and already used like 170GB
I cant remember the memory map for CF but you dont have 1GB of video memory via SLI. You have 512MB

Ya, they use dual video cards, which is basically two video cards built into one.
But then they wouldnt be dual cards ;)

ugg.. i thought it was x4 512s.. 2000 total of memory graphics
Even with cards you dont necesarily have 2GB ... it depends on how the memory mapping is done

Total is around $3,760 (inlcuding alienware warrenty).
Forgot the monitor and the cost of labor

+1, its like buying an iPod. Anyways if you dont want to build your own, there are some great deals on ebay, where people custom make computers then sell them on ebay. I got my computer (550w antech, dual dvd drives, asus A8N32 deluxe, x2 4200, sli 7900, 2 gigs of 2-2-2-51t, 250gb sata, etc) for 1,250 shipped. Completely assembled, came with xp pro. I could not have built it for that price, and I didnt have to worry about messing something up. You might check out his store, if he doesnt have what you are looking for, email him, he will build it with whatever parts you need. His ebay name is tobee5otb.

and I didnt have to worry about messing something up
Yes but what happens ifd down the road you mess something up? Will you be able to call him up? ;) People buy brand name partially because of warranty :)

When did that change? Because recent reviews of games such as GRAW, show that with the PhysX card you get slightly slower frame rates, and that all you get is a little more "debris" that flies off when you hit something. There is actually a really good review of it in the latest issue of MaximumPC.

Well from your very comment it's now a no contest issue. Enabling hardware support gives you "more stuff". Thus, without the hardware, (and thus, without the "stuff") software-mode cant compete because it doesnt offer the same experience (a similar comment can be made comparing nVidia/ATi .... nVidia cant compete when it comes to FSAA+HDR regardless of what performance may be without it) .. perhaps I should have phrased it as "software mode cant offer the same effects (regardless of the performance) that hardware mode can".

Although not a significant improvement here, there is a bonus with the HW mode

Although it's not critical at the moment, CellFactor actually requires a physx card. Granted i'll give you that physx cards are more of a novelty atm, with higher budget systems where the cost of a component is less, it is something to be had.

I can see a fair improvement over the last few tests, which is a good thing. But Ageia claims that in GRAW with their PhysX card, when you thow a grenade into a car it should make it fly in the air from the explosions, and when you shoot a dead body it should break apart and guts everywhere. However in the actual game, the only difference is a few more sparks and debris that flys off when you shoot something.

It seems like PhysX cards were a little overhyped, but it may just be that games dont know how to take full advantage of it yet since it's the first new hardware of it's kind.

Absolutely overhyped ... but it is nice to see that stuff developing. From developer journals (at least i think thats where I read it), with UE3, with physics hardware there'll be four threads running at 200fps for physics ... without the hardware there'll be one thread running at 100fps.

Thanks Praetor for the replys. well, i decided to get a quad, here is the set up and price i'll be paying for it

Although i completely disagree with your choices, i hope you enjoy your computer when it comes. And dont cancel it like you did your last order ;)

BTW, if you built this yourself it would only cost about $4,000. (I priced it out)

The FX-62 is out at a few online stores, but not newegg yet. More likely than not the Core 2 Duo is going to be better at gaming than the FX-62, and cheaper.

You will be happer building your own, since you save alot of money and you get to understand how a computer actually works.

It's going to be better (much better depending on the model you choose), and is also going to be cheaper.
