I have had this problem for the past few months, my machine is still pretty new as well. On occassion for no reason one of the cpus jumps and stays at 100% useage. It is always the same one. I guess this is the core used for most processes. Anyway it means everything starts to jutter and slow up. I thought it was an issue with vlc so got rid of that, then i stopped windows media player doing somekind of automatic checking thing (cant exactly remember what it was) and after that it was fine. But today its comeback to haunt me again. Ive noticed it sometimes happens when watching video, hence my thoughts it is related to one of the video software packages. But note it sometimes just happens when browsing internet. (firefox)
I only use WMP now, i deleted vlc.
In task manager there are no processes shown to be hogging either cpu or memory useage. System idle is at 97-99% which is normal, so unless the task is hidden i have no idea where to look.
Could be a faulty cpu but those are very rare from what ive read.
Spybot and virus scans show the system as totally clean.
Any ideas on things i could check?
My specs are
i7 930 2.8ghz
win 7 64bit
12g RAM
1TB HD
ATI Radeon 5800 series
Thanks guys
