I'm inheriting a new processor, need advice!

You guys are awesome. Seriously. :D Thanks for all of the feedback. Bomber, thanks for the laundry list of components! I have a lot to think about here.

Just to appease your guys curiosity I have a relative who works for the company. I would never pay that much for a chip but I'd feel like a dick selling it. I'm happy to hear that it's worth something so I'm looking forward to building my system around it.

If anyone has any other component configurations I'd still like hear them.

HOUSTON, WE HAVE A PROBLEM.

I just looked up the specs on the qx9750 and its a socket 771:eek:

I'm having a hard time finding more than ONE board on newegg that's a socket 771.

I knew there was a catch to this.

qx9750 is lga 775 i beleive, along with the qx9650, and qx9770, like others have said, you might be getting a qx9775

If I were you I would get a case like this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147073) and get a lot of other stuff but not waste money on the case.

QX9750 was an ES lga 771 chip, if thats what the op has then they would prolly want to sell it, cuz if not it would mean getting another 771 for skulltrail(Cuz who wants a skulltrail board with only one cpu..:P)

Lol, just for the price of the Motherboard he can get an I7 920 +$300 MB and still save money and he could sell the processor and get some more money :D

double check, because according to this it is 775:

I want to seriously thank everyone for chiming in. I really appreciate it.

"Just a noob", can you send me the link to where you found that screenshot?

I'll call my friend and see what's up with this thing.

It should be socket 775, apparently its a QX9770 that was never released to the public, and instead only released internally inside intel.

the lack of availability on the market, here's the link, and the guy probably bought it/got it for free from intel, and just be aware, intel still owns the processor, even if you/your friend bought it, so if intel does call up wanting back their processor, you'll have to give it up(i doubt it would happen, but its possible)

Just a Noob, thanks for the detailed response! All of this information looks very promising. The evidence is mounting that it is in fact a LGA775 which is great news.:D

I'm aware of "the policy" on the CPU. This is one the main reasons I'd never sell it, as so many people have suggested on here. That's not a problem I want to have.

Thank you to all who chimed in! I can now confirm it is in fact a LGA775:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

So, do you guys think that I should use a fan OR water cooling system with this CPU?
