I'm trying to install windows XP home upgrade on my new SATA harddrive this is what happens, and i have tryed over 10 times.

-I go into bio's and boot from CD

-It boots from CD

-I go though normal process, create a partition and format the whole thing as one big one using NTSF

-Finishs formating

-Copy's instalation files

-Tells me it will restart and continute installation

-Restarts

-Says press any key to boot from CD, then if i am fast enough to press a key it boots of the CD and starts the initail installtion again, where it formats and copys files which i just did!

-now if im not fast enough it says Error booting operating system or something like that. Someone pelase help me install windows xp home!

I dont rememebr where but it tells me to put in another CD too to prove i had another one, so i always put in my windows ME disk, all the other times i installed XP(same PC, different harddrives, differnt parts, and just plain when i format it again to fix stuff) i always used my 2000 disk, but i dont know where it went.

I have never had this happen before, someone please help! What can I do? Thanks in advance to who ever can help me :(

hmmm is this the first sata drive you've added? have you made sure it is enabled in the bios.

as far as the install of windows, you should remove the cd when it reboots.

yes its first sata, but its enabled and installed, and that is how my boot order is in the bios

CDROM
HARDDRIVE
DISBALED
boot from other deviced: disabled

any ideas? :(

i would rather have someone help me solve the problem but for those who have no ideas which do you think is better for a temperary install 95, 98 or ME, i have 2000 but that is what is on this computer so i dont think i an install it again :(

when its coping files it should ask if you need to load other drivers-press F6, you then load your sata drivers by floppy

hi

make sure you have a floppy with the drivers for your sata and press f6 when prompted during the windows install put floppy in when it askes for itwhen windows says its going to restart to continue windows install take cd out and leave the pc to continue

The HD didn't come with any drivers, and on tere website it says to get them from the motherboard website, but this is my motherboards website

http://ecsusa.com and my motherboard is a ECS Nforce3-A 1.0A and there arn't any sata drivers on there! only ide! Maybe this is my problem, but where to find drivers? Please help i need that PC working again by tomoroow!

ok, after a long time with ecs, i figured out the sata drivers are in the IDE folder of the driver pack....why the hell they are...who knows....but i tryed loading windows again with the drivers, i pressed F6 and choose both the ones on the floppy that i copyed over, and i still get the same Error loading operating system error.

"Error loading operating system"

BTW, I tryed getting the latest bios for my motherboard and i am currently trying running my transfer type with the harddrive at LARGE instead of auto because that was the only thing else i found on the web that might help it.

anyone else have other idea?S

Was there an OS on your SATA hard drive when you tried the upgrade? If so which OS was it? If not then that is your problem. You can only upgrade if you have a current upgradeable OS installed. If not you will have to purchase an OEM or Full version; OEM being the cheaper of the two.

IT was brand new with no OS on it, and thats not true, all that upgrade means is that it doesn't come with a lisence, and you have to proof ownership of 98, 95, ME, or 2000 during installation, you have to put the CD in the drive when it asks for it. Trust me i have done it over 5 times, i have been useing upgrade disks since 95, with the expection of one 2000 when i got a 2ed PC and i had to get a new lisence which means i needed a new full one, but i have copmletly reformated and gotten a new harddrive before, but this is my first new sata, and all the other times i just put the ME disk in when it asked, plus it gets past the part where it asks for it anyways.

OPn the microsoft website it says to get the newest bios and i tryed that and it didn't work :( Any other ideas? Thanks so far for trying guys.(and gals?)

You probably don't have the bios set right for sata or you are loading the wrong drivers. Sata can be a pain in the butt sometimes. I just built 2 computers both with the same motherboard, 1 needed sata drivers from floppy installed the other didn't.

If he isn't installing them in Raid he does not need to install the drivers. Why do people keep advising such when he is only using a sata drive.

The sata drivers will be installed on the chipset driver install.

How are you gonna install windows on a Sata drive without the motherboard recongizing them? Not all motherboards recognize Sata drives. My Asus board don't recognize Sata drives without installing the drivers at the F6 prompt.

the drivers my mobo support told me to use come up at SCIS and raid drivers to windows on the F6 part, i press enter to read from floppy and it asks which one i want to do, and there are two on there, raid and scis and i have been picking both because idk which, is this my problem? where can i get the right ones for a ECS NForce3-A 1.0 mobo?

are there any places in southern california mission jeiho that will install windows for you for less then 60$? I'm getting tired of this, and i need this PC working or it could literyally ruin my life i built for my self

look on page 36 of your manual and make sure you have it enabled in onboard devices in your bios. Then on page 35 and make sure you have the raid settings disabled if you aren't using raid. other than that i have no idea what is going on without looking the system myself.
