They are? Lets look at 2 comparable (speed wise) CPUsAMD is always about half the price of Intel
The 3000+ will never be as fast as 3GHz -- not without overclocking .... also do note that Intel procs are usually better for doing media stuffbut i do a lot of DVD Authoring, and an AMD 3000+ deffinetly doesnt go as fast as the P4 3Ghz.

Yes, AMD are usually cheaper then Intel
AMD are better for gaming
Intel are better for general working and multi-tasking
There is no finite answer to the topic title "Intel 3.4 or AMD 3500" it depends entirely on the users needs. Thus, no-one can ever say that that AMD are better than Intel or Intel are better than AMD.
