I think Intels pricing strategy is to put it in the premium market. This has done them justice up till now where people realise that AMD are actually rather good.

Core i5 a lower end series than the i7, and will be there new mainstream platform which will utilize the new socket LGA 1156/1160.

AMD has always made a good product, I have had several AMD systems in the past perform rather well. I went with intel on my last build because AMD has fallen behind. However, with this price break AMD may gain back some market share.

Remember competition is a good thing in capitalism.
