The guts for internal and external drives are the same so an internal drive in an external housing is, for all intents and purposes, the same as a purpose-built external drive with no need for specialty software

The drive should be effectively the same in that they both perform the same task (i.e., burn shit) but there are sometimes minor differences in model numbers .... unless you're going to be doing some fancy burning activities, it shouldnt be of any consequence
