Is anything good in life free?

ah... well I was hoping for maybe some particular examples of free anti-virus or anti-spyware software that anyone has actually found to be useful...

I use Avast!
It is excellent and free perfect combination

Pfffft! Go with AVG, it loads up in about... Hmm 0.00013 seconds :p

It's great too and really, really easy to use. Finds things that Nortan couldn't.

Pretty much sums it up :p

AVG is good, would probably use it but when i was installing Vista it came up with compatiability issues, i dont know if these have been resolved, but Avast! is making me nice and safe anyway i suggest Avast! :D

Wasn't the OP looking for Anti-Spyware???
and you guys are suggesting Anti-Virus....

Anyway, for Anti-Spyware you can use these:
AVG Anti-Spyware: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/avg-anti-spyware-free/lng/us/tpl/v5
Spyware Terminator: http://www.spywareterminator.com/dnl/landing.aspx
Ad-Aware: http://www.download.com/3000-2144-10045910.html
Spybot Search&Destroy: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html

EDIT: you can use more than one of these tools.

There you go. :)

Really?

Sorry if you where nice one for the post on Anti-Spyware :)
THere's us ranting on about something completely different lol :D

Actually, yes, I did say anti-spyware. I have McAffee Viruscan Console, but I downloaded Avast! and I'm much happier with it.

I tried out Spybot Search and Destroy, and I love it! Thanks! That's pretty much exactly what I was looking for. And I love that it doesn't have a higher-grade version that it suggests you upgrade to and pay for all the time.

Are there any downsides to using linux as opposed to Windows?
Like will any of my software even work on it?
And can I install it on my C drive alongside my copy of Windows if I want to try it out?

no you will most likely have to find alternatives, which there are many out there, and most games won't run that well unless you play games from ID because they port their games over to Linux

yes you can dual boot, there are endless amounts of information on the interwebs, google is your best friend
