DDR3 and DDR2 prices are pretty similar now, so changing a system to accomodate a certain RAM type because of price really isn't an issue. If you don't mind spending a tiny amount more, you'll find it's best to spring for the DDR3.
Thanks for getting back on topic, and i cant afford a ddr3 mobo, especially as iv only just bought a ddr2 mobo and already put it in the caseso its really my own fault :/ clever me!

Depending on what socket you are on, you can get a £40-50 board that will support DDR3, but of course, unless you have an AM3 CPU on an AM2+ mobo at the moment, that would mean a new processor as well
