Yes you can, i have a hp that i overclocked by ~250Mhzgeoff5093 said:nope, you cant overclock a computer that was manufactured from a company like Dell, HP, compaq, sony, ect. That way if you go too high and fry it, you cant try and return it.
interesting..... i cant see why dell would introduce overclocking features in a bios update.Yes you can, i have a hp that i overclocked by ~250Mhz
you might just have to flash the bios tho
After I flashed the bios on the hp , I could only mess with the FSB, so yea most OEM setups are not overclocking friendly...apj101 said:interesting..... i cant see why dell would introduce overclocking features in a bios update.
Normally these boards just dont have overclocking options. Period.
What rev did you flash your BIOS from and to?Yes you can, i have a hp that i overclocked by ~250Mhz

Yeah they dont have one for the OEM because OEM systems are dealt with by the OEM companiesso i went to the asus website and downloaded the bios flash for the p5gd1 seeing as they didnt have a specific one for the p5gd1-fm
No surprise thereso my board is still not overclockable.
1. You'll most likely (enough to bet on) have to reinstall the OS (i.e, you need the CDs)lol, ok so what if i buy another board, which im planning to do tomorrow, will my restore cd that came with my fujitsu-siemens comp work if i change the motherboard, as ive heard ill most probably have to do a complete reinstall of the OS if i change motherboards. If it doesnt does that mean ill have to go out and buy a copy of windows as well as the motherboard as thats gonna be a tad bit expensive, id rather know now before i buy the board, cheers
Ah, fair enoughjust to clarify something my computer is not a Dell, im not the thread starter
Ive encountered one or two cases where restore cds worked on machines they arent intended to work on (note that you cant install ... just restore) but for the most part they wont. Now if you have a copy of Windows then you shouldnt have to buy another one (just install on your new machine and activate it again) but if you dont have a copy of the standalone Windows installation CD, i would bet you'd need to buy itif i change motherboards, as ive heard restore cds only work on the computer u got it with, so am i stuck if i change the motherboard, will i have to go out and buy another copy of windows? cheers and sorry for the confusion
Interesting ... maybe you got lucky. In that case, Id suggest you get the system without Windows and buy it only if you need to.I dont know if this changes anything but my current restore CD does infact allow you to install as i just the other day did a fresh install of windows on my second hard drive with the cd and it didnt even ask me to activate it
So long as its the only copy you have installed with that license key at any given moment.itll take the license key that is printed on the front of my fujitsu case, even tho ive changed motherboards isnt my license still valid to use?
