I would just buy Vista OEM, with the Free Windows 7 Upgrade.
It's $10 cheaper and you get 2 OS's for the price of 1.

With Windows 7 gone gold it would be hard for me to consider installing Vista.
Well I strongly advise against it. vista will slow down your computer in every way, including lowering your frame rates, slowing down boot times, and even normal tasks you would normally zip through seem really slow
But still, why would you pay more for just Windows 7, when you can get both
Vista and Windows 7 for cheaper than just Windows 7?
You can install Windows 7 without installing Vista first.

The only way to be "eligible" for a free copy of Windows 7,Sorry, I guess I wasn't quite clear enough. What I meant is, if I install Vista on my current machine, would that make me eligible for the free upgrade to Windows 7? Or, would I just have to pay for it anyway?
