The AMD64 3500+ Venice core model would give you a slight boost with the 2000mhz Hypertransport over the 1600mhz seen with the 3400+ as far as the cpu is concerned. With the ATI chipset you may want to go with an ATI chip on the card you select. Personally the NVidia chipset is favored here even while running ATI cards.

The Asus EAX 1650 Pro will make your day seen at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814121032

lets just say, my 3000+ XP can play BF2142 (at least the demo, I didn't really like it) and thats with my 5600xt video card... I think you will play it with ease.

For one the 3400+ is a Socket 754 model cpu that won't work on a 939 board. You can look over the specifications on it at http://www.amdcompare.com/us-en/desktop/default.aspx

The 3800+ X2 is a 2ghz dual core model despite what is shown at newegg. http://www.amdcompare.com/us-en/desktop/details.aspx?opn=ADA3800DAA5CD
The next dual core model up is the 2.2ghz 4200+ X2 model for $202 seen at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103547 But being on a tight budget either the 3500+ or 3700+ would be the ones to consider for the lower cost. You can also take a look at the combo deal seen on the AMD64 4000+ seen at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103529

amd makes a 3800+ in a single core and a 3800+ in a dual core.

I am well aware of that. I looked those over when a friend last spring was planning a new build and wanted something better then an XP2000 Socket A without going to high on price when his board was cooked on the spot due to installing a failed XP2600 someone sold him. If I don't see a new build in 2007 the FX60 will have a new home fast! :p

I'm reusing a post for a similar thread
-------------------------------
upgrade the video card (recommend 7600GT) and toss in some RAM

my 1.3 P3 tulatin played the demo acceptably with a gig of pc133 ram.

the minimum specs for BF2 deluxe are 1.7ghz processor 512meg ram and 3.5 gig of available hard drive and directx 9 compatible video card.

I wouldn't recommend wasting the $10 on deluxe version if your into online playing, usually only one or two servers running on Special forces expansion (included in deluxe version)

my new (finished 1 week break in yesterday) AMD xp 3800 with geforce 7600 gt and 1 gig ddr2 800 ram plays it easily with all settings on HIGH

its even in the title that its a 939 processor, you REALLY need to read up on your CPUs...

I suggest that you do that. http://www.amdcompare.com/us-en/desktop/default.aspx

Here's a screen from the AMD comparison chart to look at which clearly shows the 3400+ as a Socket 754 model cpu. I knew that long ago before even putting this case together last spring.

okay, your a friggen moron... notice how the 2.2GHz is a 939 processor and the 2.4GHz is 745?

your misinformed majorly... the 3400+ 939 was discontenued and replaced by a 3500+

Before getting involved in your name calling you should get the facts straight don't you think? Let's see what AMD has to say on the 2.2ghz model.

Athlon 64 3400+ 2200 MHz 512 KiB 800 MHz 11x 1.50V 89W Socket 939 ADA3400DEP4AZ

As far as I know thay only came in pre built computers and sold as OEMs for a short period of time!

I will be calling AMD tomorrow in a live phone chat and recording it and uploading it to CF so you can listen to the AMD technician him/herself
