Temps High. Looking for heatsink

Had a Phenom X2 II 555. Unlocked the cores to get a Phenom X4 II B55.
Running stock clock speed of 3.2ghz. Want to overclock to around 3.6 later.

Using the stock cpu heatsink and fan, M4A785-M mobo, and 3 cooler master 120mm case fans in a cooler master rc-310.

Individual core temps don't work because of the unlocking, so only way I can check cpu temps are with Asus PC Probe II.

Idle cpu temps: 38-40C
30 minute Prime95 on In-Place large FFT's mode: 62C was high. 60C Average

After 2 days "break in" my idle temps are now around 43C. I'm looking into buying a new heatsink.

Have this one in mind. Any other recommendations?

60-70*C is what most CPU's max out at. I'd say allow Prime95 to run overnight and see how the computer does. You could probably fine some setting in the bios to turn off the system if it begins to get too hot. However, as long as it stays below about 65*C, I wouldn't worry that much. Though if you plan to push it any harder, a new cooler would be almost necessary.

I'll have to look through bios tomorrow for some overtemp shutdowns, don't remember seeing anything though. I will eventually get another heatsink that allows for more fans, but for now I just want to make sure it will be fine running at quad core.

Understandable. It's a bit toasty but as long as the idle temps aren't too bad and it's not bluescreening, I wouldn't worry too much.

I have the same CPU and a Xigmatek Dark Knight. I idle at 41, so you're not doing too bad, bud.

Hmm. Okay. I just want it to be as safe as possible. Best insurance is reassurance.

When I take the side of the case of it drops about 3C. I'm going to fool with the fan on the side tomorrow. It's supposed to be pushing air out, but if my stick my hand on the inside of the case side it feels like it's blowing air out too, not sucking. It's weird.

The setup is the stock fan in back, and two red led cooler master fans. One on the front pulling air in. And the one on the clear side of the case pushing out.

You meant the processor. Yea I have the X2 unlocked to an X4. The fan is on the top of the heatsink.

Here are fans I have in front, and side now. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103063

I took the side off and was idling around 36C, after putting it back on I'm up to 41C. Ofcourse that's going to happen, but I think I'm going to buy a better fan to replace the stock fan that blows out the back. Any recommendations? 120MM and noise doesn't matter. just want it to move as much air as possible. Doesn't have to be pwm either.

I didn't buy the heat sink. I bought the fan for the back of the case. Ultra Kaze was same price, and idc about noise so only made sense to get that one.

Im using the Dark Knight as well on my cpu in sig. And in room temp of 77 heres my idle temps.
I max out in prime at 61C

Not looking to spend $60. Don't plan on overclocking it to much. maybe 3.6 or 3.7.

Got ram, video card, and hard drive to worry about first.
