Laptop keeps turning off...

Problem is with Alienware Area-51 M9750. Nvidia Geforce 8700m gt (running at 81*c idle)

No battery, and running on Prudent Way universal notebook ac power adapter.
I don't have a model number for it and it isn't on the adapter itself. I'm pretty sure its turning off because the GPU is overheating. I have only seen it happen in starcraft 2. There is no warning and it just goes off. It then wont power back on for several minutes. Is it possible that the power adapter is not functioning correct / over powering the system? Is the GPU crapping out? It says 19v on the bottom of the computer, I have it set to 19v and I really don't know where else to go with this? I didn't provide you with any specs but its pretty basic so let me know if they are relevant and what you want to see.

Yes, you definately have an overheating video card. Since the video is usually integrated into the laptop, you would have to send it in to get replaced.

it could be the charger the amps going in could be to high if the converter (the box) could not function but i think it is your vidio card

Thanks for both responses, I was considering the converter, but still leaned more towards the video card. I'll give Alienware a call and see what they say. I am not excited about this since they are never friendly or helpful.

Wow I didn't find that. I wasn't looking all that hard but that is great to know. I have been busy but I'm calling alienware in a couple hours to see what they want to do about it. I have a feeling they will give me the run around. Thanks again all you have really come through for me with great insight.

Amperage doesn't matter. A device will only use as many amps as it needs. Extra voltage is a problem though. Too much and you can fry something.

Though I don't think the adapter is an issue, I still recommend getting a genuine OEM replacement adapter from Alienware.

and no battery i had that problem with my fujitsu and it had totely warn inside from unpluging and pluging it in, is it still in warranty?

Ya it's still under warranty for about another year. I'll see if I can get them to send me out a new adapter, and talk to them about the video card. I called them and waited on hold for an hour, then I finally called back but got the voice mail and they never called me back. I'll have to get on top of it. They are really bad about returning calls tho.
