LCD, 20+", good for gaming

I might be getting a new monitor in the future because the CRT I have is huge (almost 2 feet deep). The monitor I have now is 21 inches, so I would like no less then 20. It needs to be good for gaming, no ghosting, etc. And preferrably lowish in price, between 3-600$. The lower the better.

If there really is nothing I can get for the price, I can wait. But the lower the price, the better.

Finally, if there is one in the $ range, something above 22 inches would be nice. But not necessary.

Well I had a Dell 19" but it had huge ghosting issues. The monitor you suggested looks good, save for the 16ms response time. And other ideas people?

Bleh...I feel like I could get a lot better for the price. 70 odd dollars for an extra .1 inch isn't really worth it to me. Also, apperantly the refresh rate only goes up to 60hz which is WAY too low for me. I notice flickering under 70hz.

If the refresh rate went up to 500hz, you still wouldn't notice any difference between that and 60hz. It's a completely different concept; CRTs don't work the same way as LCDs do..

Really...ok, I might look at it a bit more. Btw, is how what are you measuring in a widescreen? Is it still the diagonal?

So a widescreen 21" would be a lot bigger then a normal aspect 21"

Yes, the only way you could get 20.1" out of this screen would be by measuring diagonally.

Widescreen vs. standard 4:3 is all preference. It's something that is constantly debated, but in the end it all comes down to personal preference. Some people use the argument that it's more natural to view more horizontally than it is vertically, and honestly I can agree with this.

Check out post #14 in this thread that I made..

It will show you side-by-side the difference between a widescreen monitor and a standard 4:3 monitor.

At the bottom of the post, you'll also see information regarding widescreen gaming, as well as screenshots comparing 4:3 to 16:9/16:10. Not only does it look good, but you'll have more viewing area than people with 4:3 monitors!

Ok, I have looked through a few widescreen and normal monitors. Anything above 21.3 is just out of my price range, unless I buy it used. Which I might.

Here is what I have:

Widescreen, Samsung

Normal, Viewsonic

I may just get a bigger monitor off eBay, depending on condition. Or here, if anyone has one to sell...

Why do you completely bump the VX2025wm?

2 main reasons:

1. It only has VGA and DVI input. I will be hooking up my 360 to this, so I want one with RGB at least.

2. I have seen it and for some reason it looks a lot smaller then my 21 inch. I know it is a 20.1" widescreen, but for some reason it looks a lot smaller.

As said before, I'll look into it more.

EDIT: I just noticed that the normal monitor only has DVI and VGA as well. Goodbye to that one.

EDIT: Chances are I'll be getting whatever monitor I choose off ebay.

If you have to get 20" your response time is going to suffer big time. I have this monitor:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824116375

Sits next to my roomies 21" CRT and it looks better, not noticably smaller at all, I was very impressed with the size and although I am not a hardcore gamer I think it is smoother looking than my old 17" CRT and am 100% satisfied with the LCD.

Plus for 265 bucks it gives you some money left over to upgrade that video card. A 7900GT or X1800XT fit with the link above under 600 shipped. I think you would be much happier with that setup as a 21" LCD is going to have bad response time and will make your card drop some valuable FPS.

Just my 2 cents

my friend has I think a 22 1/2 inch widscreen Dell that he got for 5ooish, has a 12ms response time I think, maybe 16, either way I like it lots. I'm used to a Samsung CRT and I notice no ghosting, and widescreen is way better, I think. it uses 1600 x 1050 or something like that as optimum. Not sure where to get it, but look at Dell widscreens - it also turns 90 degrees and becomes like a tablet PC, good for web browsing. Has a few USB ports, VGA and DVI connection. I like it, and his brother has something crazy like a 24 or 25 inch of the same model line.

That one looks alright, but I am going to go with a widescreen. What other good brands are there aside from Viewsonic? I would like to look outside of newegg.

EDIT: Also, would a computer monitor with highish res qualify as a HD screen? I have a 360 on my CRT at 1360 x 768, and I am pretty sure it is HD quality.
