guys ive been doing crazy research on ssd's. do you think it's worth getting? i'm a speed freak and it's supposed to be mad fast though they have tiny space

here's 1 crazy comp i'm considering http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...na&AID=10446076&PID=3688007&SID=skim49X493850 (check the description and reviews. sick!)

i'm also considering getting a laptop and using the hdd that comes with it as an external hdd or getting a laptop with two drives- one for the ssd and 1 for the laptop.

i read somewhere about installing a few raptors for speed and space instead of the ssd/hdd setup. i know nothing about raptors so if you guys can help me out i'd appreciate it

@rwm:is a hybrid faster than an ssd? it says so on the page you linked to but in the newegg reviews buyers thought otherwise. when it comes down to it i'm wiling to shell out big cash for speed

UPDATE:
i pretty much narrowed it down to these two: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...20-696^34-220-696-TS,34-220-688^34-220-688-TS
i'm also planning on getting 8 gb ram, 12 cell battery, and a very fast ssd for whichever one i get.

the question is: is it worth 220$ to spend for 180 gig hdd, 2 gig ram (which i'm buying anyway), and a better graphics card? right now i'm thinking yes. but i'm not such a big gamer and if i'm correct i believe i can play any game out there on high and the more graphics-type-games on low (http://www.notebookcheck.net/ATI-Mob...0.23825.0.html) with the graphics card from the 1080$ laptop.

but at the same time i might end up keeping this laptop for 3-5 years and by that point maybe some of the games wont even be playable on low. pretty much i want to make sure that in a few years ill still for sure be able to play games on low

if you could help me decide by giving me some info i'd really appreciate it

id go with the asus g51.
you were just talking about how your a speed freak, the 220 is well worth it for the difference. and it comes with a free backpack, come on now.
also if you dont need a BR drive check out the asus g73 my friend bought this and its pretty damn fast..

also raptors are FAST, but not made for laptops due to size and heat production, if you were building a desktop then i would suggest a raptor over sdd. thats why i posted the hybrid hdd.

@rwm:damn that bestbuy (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Asus+-+...lack/9741729.p?skuId=9741729&id=1218165344675) laptop is crazy awesome. why is the newegg one (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220688) so much pricier?

about the 220$, i was getting two more gig ram anyways, so the question was about the better hdd and graphics card (which as far as i know dont speed up a system) if it's worth spending 220$ on the difference

@abelt:maybe its not bad but the bestbuy one is straight up amazing

because neweggs comes with a backpack :p bestbuy usually has cheaper prices on laptops than newegg. its the way it is.
and the thing about "buying 2 more gigs" is ur not just buying 2gb more. because that laptop has 2 dimm slots, it has 2x2gb sticks, in order to upgrade to 6 you have to buy a whole 4gb stick to replace one of sticks. waste of time/effort and a good piece of ram. oh and money.

where do i find the dimm info? btw it's from 6gb to 8 gb, not 4 gb to 6 gb

i dont mind replacing ram or spending extra money because i really care about the speed. the only question is if it really affects the speed and which laptop is best for the money

what other places besides bestbuy am i missing out on? what site has prices that compete with bestbuy that i can research?

do it. and imo bigger warranties dont really matter. you get a year warranty and boom 3 weeks after warranty ends the shit breaks. never trust warranties, whatever time period they have set for a warranty, they build it to last right after it expires. no lie. instead of saying "hey long warranty!" look around n find out if anything goes bad and whatnot for that model.

one problem for me right now is having an address in the u.s. to ship it to to ship it to me. does anyone wanna do me a favor (ill pay) and order it and mail to me?
