i have an asus a8n sli premium..... if you want to see the rest of my specs see: http://www.computerforum.com/59150-y-am-i-so-not-satisfied-all.html

any way i just installed this new mobo and pretty much all the hardware is new in the case but anyway it was up and running .... even though i was not satisfied with the preformance. so anywho i installed all the utilities that came with the mobo disk with the exception of the stuff that was junk. it came with a utility for updaying the bios, and it also sais to do this in the manual .... the verion that came with it was from 05.... the asus update sight had a version for 06 so i downloaded the file and used the utility to flash it and change the bios.... now it wont boot up, i get nothing on the screen it goes to power save. i called tech supp and they said then needed to send me a new bios chip..... they did overnight for 20 bucks . it still doesnt work. i called tech support and they told me to TAKE MY PC APART AND SEND THEM THE BOARD SO THEY CAN FIX IT YET NOONE KNOWS WHATS WRONG WITH IT AND IT MAY TAKE A FEW WEEKS? WTF GOOD GAME ASUS!

Was there in interruption during the update process? I've updated my motherboard a few times and other Asus boards in the past with plenty of luck. What was your reason for updating? There was no real reason to believe you'd see much more performance by doing so. Updating your bios is usually done mainly to fix compatibility issues that might arise due to hardware that was released after the board was manufactured.

My advice for the future, don't update your bios unless there is a real need, Performance is not usually enhanced much this way. Also you must have read the many warnings everywhere with bios flashing? Anyway try resetting your bios. Usually when you update it you need to adjust a few settings anyhow. Not saying it's going to help but it's worth a shot.

Edit:

I read your other thread. It almost sounds like your expectations are too high for your system. I think you over estemate it. It's a decent PC but it's not a high end gaming PC. 2gb or ram would be better and the video is really middle road graphics. CPU is nice but there is much faster on the market. Try lowering your expectations or opening your wallet a little bit wider.

good advice man.... i know i cheaped out on some parts but it was an upgrade from what i had .... or so i thought. how do i reset the bios after updating .... i get nothing to load up . i now have the stock bios chip and the updated one and nothing will show on the screen it just goes to power save.. by the way i cleared the cmos ... tech supp told me to do that and it did nothing also .. i really dont wanna take all that apart cause im lazy. so how do i reset the bios or is there something else i should try?

Ohhhh K, Well reseting the CMOS is resetting the bios so do not worry about that if you've done it already. Have you checked to make sure nothing has come unplugged? It's strange how the new chip wont work. Are there any beeps while booting? I'd check all cables and re-seat them all. Put in the new bios chip (if it's not) and cross the fingers. Wish I had better advice, good luck.

cool man thanks .... yea ive checked and checked. everything is tight and i get nothing .... mabey if i pound the motherboard into the mud with my boot i will work ..... im starting to get annoyed with my girls lame dell laptop as you can tell .

thanks again .... anyone else ?

as a future tip, dont update your bios unless you are lacking functionalty of something that a bios update will fix, basicly "dont fix what aint broke" :)

Well if you can't figure it out, you can always RMA for a new board.

thats what they said that they would do for me ( asus ) .... what exactly does that mean ? i know thats a dumb question but i dont know what the abbreviation means......

You just send your board back to them, and they will replace your defective board with a new one.
