If your budget will only allow you to purchase a card in the FX range then I'd seriously look at ATi equivalent cards.
I COULD go to the G6 range, but I'd rather spend as little as possible, I dont care abuout FPS, I;'ll put it on low res if i have to.

Yes and that is good for you. I never "meant" to imply that you could not afford anything better. We all have budgets and you asked about the FX series. I gave sound advice to avoid them if possible.

I'd rather buy a toco with beef in it over dog meat any day.

Heehee.

I just didn't know if the FX supported it or not,, if its not going to support HDR then i'd spend the extra, but as long as it runs it, even if it runs it bad i'd rather go for the FX, I just dont know which supports what.

My FX5900 doesnt support HDR on Half life because it only recognises my card as Direct X8.1:mad:

i thought it looked much better than the standard graphics of HL2; you gotta remember that its only a tech demo at best

HDR sucks. Good job Valve, you can overexpose your game and make it look like crap now

Well they have not done that yet ;). That was a tech demo as already said. I found it a bit bright and odd at times and thought it could use a little toning down but honestly I like it more with then without it. I played the tech demo with and then without and boy there was a difference.

It's a great idea, but I don't think they have it yet. I thought it ended up being much too bright. I actually prefer it without HDR. I like how the light moves, I just don't like the overexsposed look of everything.

I think the problem here is that many people dont adjust their monitors for color correction etc.

so what is lost coast

It is a tech demo. Basicly a level that is free to download if you own Half Life 2. It makes use of HDR lighting which looks very nice.
