Mac or PC? Which to Buy..

I would definitely get a Mac. The money is worth the investment knowing how user friendly and secure it s from viruses. Plus Apple's after care warranty has been good to me.
 
depends macs tend to cost about 30-50% more then a PC if u want bang for your buck got PC, if you want a tied down lil sandbox system what you wont be able to upgrade then go apple.

Just because no one wants to steal information from a kids coloring book doesn't mean that it's more "secure" from threats. Macs are no more secure than PC's, it's simply that people are aware that the vast majority use PC's on their network... So that's a bogus claim...

acctuly the reason macs dont have virus's is cause they only have 6-8% of the market share so if your going to write a virus, u mise well write one that has the highest chance of working on the majority of computers ie windows (90%) and at the last security convention they had mac acctuly score remarkibly lower then windows did in security, now they are starting to work on it more as they are growing.
 
It is very true what Burn_all has said. This is the reason I use the Linux Ubuntu operating system mostly for the Internet. Malicious software targets Windows users because they make up 90% of the computers on the Internet. Macintosh and Linux I think are catching on and slowly getting more popular, but Microsoft still owns the market.
 
Trying to be as unbiased as possible, IMO there's very little reason to actually choose a Mac over a PC. For the most part, I think price is the biggest reason not to buy a Mac. I have no desire to pay considerably more money for a proprietary computer that isn't as good as one I could simply build myself. The only reason Macs are still in existence is because of marketing, because some people are actually stupid enough to pay an extra however much for an apple logo. Stupid people and women.

Rofl absoulute hilarity. PC all the way. Had a few macs i had to pick up to go to a school they weigh a ton and for what they offer in the form of use, upgrading and compatibility no thanks.

I agree 100%. I hate it when people say "Well Macs don't get viruses!!!" That maybe true, but the reason it because there aren't enough Macs around to make it worth creating a Mac virus. Personally, I would go with PC. PCs are WAY cheaper. Easy to replace parts and upgrade. Easy to find software for. Plus Macs are made specifically for liberals, lol JK!
 
Macintosh makes a decent operating system in my opinion. But I have no desire to ever go Macintosh until they allow you to make an installation of it on a custom desktop build. I get whatever I want with Linux Ubuntu 9.04 and Windows XP.

Why do people always argue the virtues of two essentially similar systems? It's like arguing a Ford is better than another Ford with shinier paint...

Macs == PC's. Simple as that, the only difference is the quality is somewhat higher than that of normal laptops (and it is, I know this because this one hasn't fallen apart after a year) and the OS. I can install Windows and run programs from it like any other PC. I choose not to however simply because Windows is pointless pour moi.

Viruses for OSX to get root in 99.9% of cases require the user to do something completely retarded to get it thanks to the way UNIX handles user permissions. Windows however, doesn't.

Want to know about the Mac platform? tlarkin has done a huge post/thread on it, read it. It's quite a good time spender...

Could I have the link please PabloTek to this information? I am trying to study to eventually become a computer technician and all the good data I can get helps.
 
I'm sure Mac's are great machines, just like Window's machines.

I guess if you want a plug and play machine get a Mac. If you like Apple's software, get a Mac. although be forever within reach of Steve Job's noose when you start to wish for a more 'open' system.

Window's machines are brilliant for those that like to build their own machines, upgrade, tinker with and modify but don't screw up cause you'll pay for it.

That's my balanced opinion.

Me? I'll never spend that kind of money on a computer only to have to obay SJ's rules about what I can/can't install, what I can/can't do to 'his' hardware... I'd pull the Mac Pro apart only to realise that there is nothing I can do with this machine apart from just 'using' it.

Although it would be kinda cool to try and break the Mac infrastructure wide open....
