MAC OS VS Windows: Where did Microsoft go wrong?

What does the future hold for Mac vs PC?

Dear Forum,

OK, here we have MAC OS X Tiger, a UNIX Based open (scriptable) operating system. I have recently made the change to Mac and enjoy its one-button plug and play simplicity, sophisticated password protected core which I hear protects spyware trojans and the like from self-installing, no registry files all over the place.

However, I miss certain applications only available for Windows pc, even though some of my Indian or Pakistani friends seem very capable in hacking Windows for some reason.

My question is: I read somewhere that the original Windows 3.11 release back in the day was actually a temporary one, whilst Microsoft was working on a more sophisticated OS to be released. However, Windows took off so much that they standardised it.
So what is the OS Microsoft was making? Is it any of the enterprise OSs that Microsoft sells to businesses, like Windows CE or those OSs inside bank machines for example?

More importantly, could they not gradually bridge the gap through Windows upgrades and eventually offer the planned robust system, comparable to Mac OS for example? Can they not even plan the basic operation of password request for most installations just like Mac, thus avoiding malicious code self-installations?

Thanks guys.

The reason why macs dont have so many virus problems and everything, is becuase most people use windows, and is someone makes a virus, they want it to reach most people, so they find an exploit for windows(most used) and use it to make a virus of some sort.

also i beth have the auto-installering stuff just isn;t compatible with macs hahaahahhahahahah, anyways more seroisly you can eaisily avoid getting that stuff on your PC, just dont go to any dumb sites, dont downlaod random things, and no P2P software or otehr forms of sharing.

Ive been hearing reports that Kazaa has been successfully sued over here in Australia.About time i might add :P

as long as u dont allow uploading and be careful what u download you'll be fine. Music wise my norton picks out every bad file and deletes it b4 n e thing completes download.

by this time nex year the mac os will be running on the intel chips. apple have been working on this for sometime.

You purchase a product depend on your need, do you need Windows or Mac?
I prefer windows for easier on combining my programming platform, entertainments and devices, office jobs, net surfing applications and everything. But I'm not familiar with Mac, as far as I know it have limited accesibility into another product.

so, try all of these.
